Process Safety Manager

Altamira is hiring a Process Safety Management (PSM) professional to join our team. This person will represent the company to clients and business associates, as well as internal staff, and will apply their expertise to help our clients identify potential hazards, develop safety strategies, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards. The role is pivotal in minimizing risks associated with industrial processes, protecting the workforce, and ensuring environmental sustainability. They are instrumental in helping our clients create and maintain a safe operating environment while adhering to regulatory requirements. This role closely interfaces with our Environmental and Pipeline Safety groups, presenting the opportunity to be part of a diverse team solving our clients’ most challenging risk management issues.
Success in this position will be measured by ongoing demonstration of superior Process Safety Management skills and knowledge, and consistently achieving high customer satisfaction through clear communication and high-quality deliverables.

Altamira serves clients in a variety of industries and values experience in Oil and Gas, Refining, Petrochemicals, Chemical Manufacturing, Industrial Manufacturing, Gas Processing, Utilities, Fertilizers, and more.
This position can be filled in Houston, Angleton or Dallas Texas, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, or potentially remotely for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct and facilitate various hazard analysis techniques such as Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), What-If Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) to identify potential hazards in processes.
- Quantify and assess risks associated with identified hazards using risk assessment tools and methodologies.
- Develop and prioritize risk reduction strategies and recommendations.
- Ensure that clients' processes and facilities are in compliance with applicable safety codes and regulations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain Safety Management systems (SMS) to integrate safety into day-to-day operations.
- Assist clients in creating and updating safety procedures and policies.
- Collaborate with clients to develop and enhance emergency response plans and procedures.
- Conduct drills and simulations to test the effectiveness of emergency response plans.
- Investigate process-related incidents, near-misses, and accidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Perform safety audits and inspections of industrial facilities to identify compliance gaps and potential safety issues.
- Provide recommendations for corrective actions.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate employees and management on Process Safety best practices.
- Promote a culture of safety within an organization.
- Maintain accurate records of safety assessments, reports, and recommendations.
- Prepare and present proposals and/or comprehensive reports to clients, highlighting findings and proposed solutions.
- Stay up-to-date with local, national, and international safety regulations and standards relevant to the industry.
- Stay informed about industry advancements and emerging technologies related to Process Safety.
- Continuously improve methodologies and approaches to enhance safety practices.
Qualifications / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in Process Safety related to Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)/Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) methodology, Process Safety Management (PSM)/ Risk Management Program (RMP) program development and auditing, consequence modeling, and/or facility siting
- Experience managing a team desired
- Formal training in PHA and/or LOPA desired
- Experience in PHA, consequence modeling, and/or QRA software desired
- Process Controls or SIS experience a plus
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time; Valid driver's license required
- Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, and work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent presentation, organization, and communication skills
- Ability to present, train and to engage with others
- Outstanding problem-solving skills with a flair for thinking creatively
- Ability to work well both independently and team-based
