The Labor/Employee Relations Manager has a broad focus and oversight of the Labor and Employee Relations for organization. The position will conduct, organize and direct the employee and Labor Relations functions throughout the system (5000+ employees). This leader will oversee all employee and labor activities, while identifying trends and opportunities and implementing strategies for improvement. The incumbent will be a strategic leader, focused on building positive/influential relationships among all levels in the organization and the representative bargaining units. This role will work with his/her team to develop and facilitate training and activity tracking tools. This manager will participate in collective bargaining sessions, arbitrations and grievances and will manage all contract implementations. This position will also update, interpret and apply employee relations policies and the collective bargaining agreements. The Labor/Employee Relations leader must be able to work a flexible schedule and travel to all onsite/offsite locations. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties:
- Manages and integrates the various functions of Employee/Labor Relations with other Human Resources functions. Designs, develops and implements an employee and Labor Relations program that addresses consistent application of the human resources policies, including the discipline and just cause process, termination and grievances process.
- Partners with the Executive Administrator, Human Resources to continue to establish positive working relationships with the union representatives while adhering to the terms and conditions of the CBA’s.
- Drives the strategy for complex grievances and arbitrations. Supports the Employee/Labor Relations team in the facilitation of grievance and arbitration proceedings and processes as defined in the CBA’s.
- Develops and facilitates training and development programs for leadership related to employee and Labor Relations.
- Provides education and guidance to leaders on proper documentation and requirements for various processes and procedures.
- Manages the labor and employee relations staff to ensure that all complaints/cases are investigated and recorded timely in the electronic database.
- Consults with management regarding trends in employee and Labor Relations while providing objective options to improve labor and employee relations outcomes and management and staff relationships..
- Leads in a trusting and confidential manner at all times. Handles all situations in a discreet and professional manner.
- Manages the employee and Labor Relations team workflow and takes on responsibility to take on the overflow of cases as needed.
- Develops monthly labor and employee activity reports.
- Maintains a high level of productivity and must be available seven days a week and during off hours for projects or staff situations.
- Must be comfortable directly managing staff.
- Must be professional at all times and be able to build relationships with all levels of staff and leadership.
- May serve as back up in the absence of the HR Management.
- Ensures labor and employee relations programs meets local, state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Must be able to travel to all onsite/offsite locations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or related field required.
- 3-5 years Experience in labor and employee relations in lead/management level
- Experience with unions and conducting employee investigations
- Proficient oral/written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical/critical thinking, presentation and creative skills.
- Proficient in MS Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field preferred.
- Experience in a healthcare setting
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
- HR Certification SPHR from HRCI or SHRM-SCP from SHRM certification. If no certification upon hire, one must be obtained within one year of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date.
The annual base salary range for this position is $110,240.00 - $181,896.00.
