Job Description
Job Summary:
Experienced with Automation and Controls with the ability to maintain, install and replace automation systems throughout the production process, including PLC programming. Individual will preferably have proven knowledge and skill of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulics and procedure to troubleshoot, perform preventive maintenance and complete necessary repairs.
Specific Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Maintain, install, and replace automation systems throughout the production process, including PLC programming and SCADA systems (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition)
Able to maintain maintenance programs, such as work orders, PM scheduling, and parts inventory.
Adheres to and leads safety programs in the plant, especially LOTO, arc flash safety, and permitted work.
Ability to apply knowledge of each technical requirement below is preferred:
  • Electrical Skills:

Read and interpret electrical schematics and identify symbols and control circuits with a high degree of competency.
Understand and troubleshoot PLC program and logic is helpful.
Strong ability to trouble-shoot electrical circuits.
Able to install PLCs, change motors, install relays and starters, install control circuits.
  • Hydraulic Skills:

Read and interpret hydraulic schematics and identify symbols and control circuits.
Troubleshoot hydraulic circuits.
Capable of repairing, changing, or upgrading equipment.
  • Mechanical Skills:

Able to perform preventative maintenance on all types of equipment represented in the plant.
Knowledge of refrigeration, drying, conveying, fluid pumps, blowing and vacuum pumps, pneumatic circuits, and welding.
Inspects product for quality defects.
Maintains housekeeping of all assigned areas. This includes cleaning up after making repairs and applying Good Manufacturing Practices to meet plant goals. Follow all GMP, HACCP and Product Safety requirements.
Is responsible to remain on each assignment until the job is complete or until released by Manager.
Follows all established safety rules and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook and as trained during the various safety-related training programs. Identifies and communicates all hazards and safety issues to co-workers and managers/production coordinators. Properly uses all personal protective equipment.
Performs other related duties as directed by the Plant Engineer and be willing to perform other duties as assigned that may not necessarily fall within the scope of the duties outlined above.
Job Specifications and Requirements:
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education preferred (technical or vocational, Associates in Maintenance or Industrial/Electrical/Mechanical related degree.)
  • Previous automation experience in manufacturing work experience is required.
  • Efficient and effective computer use and related software.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills are required.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Able to recognize and understand numbers and values, including data entry into database.
  • Effective teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to make priority decisions and independent judgment calls based on the situation at hand.
  • Demonstrates schedule flexibility for coverage for vacations and other absences.
  • Possesses the desire for continuing education, within the job position requirements and or personal enrichment.
  • Demonstrates proficiency through experience and/or certificates in at least FOUR (4) of the following trades is preferred:

Other Physical Requirements:
  • Able to stand and walk up to 12-hours on concrete or other hard surfaces.
  • Occasionally required to lift/push/carry up to 70 lbs. (this is a heavy physical demand job as outlined by the U.S. Department of Labor.)
  • push/pull up to 900 lbs. using a hydraulic hand jack (this is the equivalent of a static push/pull of approximately 70 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift, bend and twist repetitively during shift.
  • Must be able to bend under 4-foot bottle conveyor.
  • Must also be able to climb stairs/ladders up to 15 feet high.
  • Frequent and effective dexterity in fingers and hands to operate hand tools.
  • Proficient hand / eye coordination to operate equipment and controls.

Environmental Factors:
  • Continuous noise from 70 to 102dB
  • Occasional exposure to chemicals

Level of Authority:
Coworkers have the authority to stop production due to safety concerns or issues.
Those coworkers with authorized training can shut down/stop equipment if continued operation is a threat to any coworker's health and safety.
Coworkers have the authority to hold for inspection, any product that they feel does not meet customer, company, or product safety specifications.
Quarantine out-of-specification products, materials, or supplies.
Contact any member of Management without fear of reprisal concerning questions, suggestions, or complaints regarding safety, quality, working conditions or job environment.
