Introduction
The WI Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) is recruiting for aMaintenance Engineer (Civil Engineer Transportation Senior or Advanced) to join the Northwest Region Engineering Team.
This full time permanent position will be headquartered out of our Superior office

Position Summary
This position is located in the Department of Transportation, Division of Transportation Systems Development Northwest Region, Maintenance Unit. This position develops, directs and coordinates the work of specific counties through the county patrol superintendents in order to accomplish the goals outlined in the annual Routine Maintenance Agreements (RMAs), Discretionary Maintenance Agreements (DMA), Performance Based Maintenance (PbM) and Local Force Account (LFA) projects.
The goals of maintenance and this position requires a broad base of knowledge and experience in all phases of highway engineering support, including design and construction practices, transportation laws and statutes, drainage practices, material usage and testing, bridge and roadway plan interpretation, supervisory skills, budget management, and oral and written communication skills .

Salary Information
The Senior level position is in schedule-range (14-13) with an annual salary of $79,269 - $97,448 depending upon qualifications and experience.
The Advanced level position is in schedule-range (14-13) with an annual salary of $88,296 - $106,808 depending upon qualifications and experience.
All positions have excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.
Job Details
WisDOT does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. This topic and any remote work flexibility that may be available will be discussed in more detail in the interview process. For permanent positions that allow remote work flexibility, Wisconsin residency is not required. However, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowed because positions may at times need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.
Qualifications
A minimally qualified applicant at the SENIOR level will have the following:
  • 4-year degree in Civil Engineering (or a Master's or PhD) or a related engineering field from an ABET accredited University, EIT Credential, or Professional Engineer (PE) credential (if non-Wisconsin PE, a Wisconsin PE must be obtained within 3 months of hire).
  • At least 4 years of experience post-graduation in design, construction or maintenance of transportation structures (structures are defined as bridges, culverts, sound walls, retaining walls or sign bridges)
Additionally, a qualified candidate at the ADVANCED level will have:
  • A valid Professional Engineering registration and be able to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if the PE registration is from another state.
