Overview
Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC's 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff are dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. UBHC, one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country, has a budget of $260 million and has 15 sites throughout New Jersey. Services are readily accessible and include: inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach and case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Specialty services include the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children and child protective service workers. In FY2016, UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, had 24,502 admissions, and touched the lives of 19,441 individual callers through peer support. In addition, UBHC is the primary mental health training resource for the New Jersey departments of Human Services, Children and Families, and Corrections, delivering 16,000 trainings each year.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Per Diem Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for Outpatient Services within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is to provide direct care, wellness counseling, perform treatments and proceed within established guidelines. Facilitate appointments and liaison with Primary Care Providers
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Observes and reports relevant behaviors, including response to interpersonal, intrapersonal and extra personal events and ability to meet basic needs.
• Demonstrates knowledge of consumer's individualized treatment, goals, physical health and nursing care directives.
• Participates in and contributes to the establishment of a consistent therapeutic environment in keeping with the needs, treatment goals and nursing care directives of each individual.
• Responds appropriately to physical, psychological and environmental crises in order to maintain safety.
• Performs direct consumer care utilizing Standard Precautions, in order to maintain safety and infection control.
• Observes, reports and documents consumer progress in relation to specific aspects of treatment planning goals and related nursing care directives.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience

• Possession of a valid registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrated strong clinical nursing specialty.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Must be computer literate with proficiency in word processing.
• Leadership abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• A minimum of one (1) year experience providing medical services to mental health consumers preferred.
• Community based experience.

Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical Demands: Lift, position, transfer or transport consumers; lift supplies and equipment (heavy physical effort). Requires manual dexterity and mobility. Work with potentially aggressive individuals; physically intervene in aggressive behaviors. Care for consumers with infectious diseases. Contact with consumers under a wide variety of circumstances. Handle emergency or crisis situations; may perform emergency care. Requires judgment/action which could result in death of a consumer. Participate in manpower pool. Requires remaining with assignment until relieved. Use computer to enter and retrieve information. Requires reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling.
Work Environment: Occasional exposure to unpleasant consumer elements. On occasion, escorts consumer off the ground. Requires reporting to work in spite of inclement weather and other external events. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Must agree to record searches in accord with New Jersey statute.
