Famulari, Butto & Higginbottom, PLLC is a small Florida maritime law firm. We provide pragmatic and cost-effective legal representation to a wide range of marine interests including marine insurers, vessel owners, marinas, boat yards, and all varieties of marine related vendors throughout Florida. We provide both transactional and litigation legal services to our clients. Our extensive practical experience in vessel operations and other maritime related matters enables us to recognize factual aspects of maritime related problems and consider them in the context of the applicable maritime law. This allows us to provide practical solutions to our clients with a goal of maximizing their interests.
Role Description
This is a part-time (about 20 hours a week) role for a Litigation Paralegal/Assistant. The position is remote, but we are looking for candidates living in the Tampa Bay, Florida region for the occasional in person meeting, training, or team project. The Litigation Paralegal/Assistant will be responsible for managing calendars, organizing and maintaining files, drafting legal documents and correspondence, managing discovery, and providing assistance to attorneys in preparing for meetings and trials. The Litigation Paralegal/Assistant will work closely with attorneys and clients to provide high-quality legal support and assistance. We are a small firm that provides flexibility.
Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys with case management and preparation for trial
- Conduct legal research using Westlaw and other resources
- Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery requests
- Organize and maintain case files, both physical and electronic
- Prepare accurate written summaries
- Coordinate and schedule depositions, hearings, and other meetings
- Assist with trial preparation, including organizing exhibits and witness lists
- Perform data entry tasks to update case information in the firm's database
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant in litigation
- Strong knowledge of legal case management procedures and practices
- Proficiency in using Westlaw or similar legal research tools
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Attention to detail and accuracy in all work performed
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience using Florida Efililng portal and Pacer
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
