Library Assistant Director

What You'll Be Doing
**This is an Internal Job Posting - only available to internal Wake County employees, contractors and temporary employees.**
The Assistant Library Director will work with the Library Director to oversee WCPL’s operations and strategic direction. The specific portfolio of supervisory and resource area assignments will be based on the skills and experience of the selected candidate, the skills and experience of the other Assistant Library Director and the needs of the Library Director.
Essential Functions:
Coordinate activities related to the upcoming libraries bond referendum
Develop, implement and track WCPL’s Tactical Plan
Work with the Library Director on long-range and strategic planning efforts
Manage special projects that fall outside the scope of Senior Library Manager resource areas
Represent WCPL at meetings, conferences, community events and media appearances as needed
Work with the other Assistant Library Director to coordinate areas of overlap or shared responsibilities
Assumes the duties of the Library Director as needed

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Master's degree in Librarianship or related field: MLS, MLIS, MIS, ML from an ALA accredited program or NC program
Five years of progressively responsible public library experience, including at least three years of experience as a library branch manager or a senior library manager

Advanced critical thinking and project management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize
Thorough knowledge of WCPL and County policies, core values and organizational culture
Track record of demonstrating initiative and independent judgment, dealing effectively with ambiguity, recognizing trends, identifying a variety of options and solutions to solve problems and evaluating the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one
Aptitude to lead and motivate staff
Evidence of good organizational skills

Hiring Range: $82,862 - $116,002
Market Range: 82,862.00 - 149,143.00
