The Sutter County District Attorney's Office is seeking a Legal Secretary to join their team!

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Legal Secretary II:
Knowledge of: Legal office work, procedures and terminology; legal forms and documents.
Ability to: Prepare reports and correspondence with minimum direction; establish and maintain effective working relationships with professional personnel, associates, and the general public; type at 45 w.p.m. (net).
Education and Experience: Three years of experience in legal stenography or legal office work, or one year of experience as a Legal Secretary I in a District Attorney's Office; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Legal Secretary III:
Knowledge of: The organization, function, policies and practices of a District Attorney's Office; legal terminology; general practices and procedures associated with the performance of legal secretarial work; principles and applications necessary to prepare a variety of legal documents; document preparation and case management using an automated system; the principles of office management and standard record keeping procedures; analytical methods and techniques; modern office practices and technology; correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; letter and report writing; comprehensive filing systems to maintain historical documents and accurate record keeping systems.
Ability to: Prepare under the general direction of attorneys a variety of complex and difficult legal documents requiring independent judgment and research skills; use communication skills and techniques for gathering information at all levels of the organization; define problem areas; organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction; define and select alternatives; learn, interpret and apply specialized policies and procedures; understand and follow complex oral and written directions; maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; use good judgment in choosing among available alternatives, in recognizing scope of authority, in seeking assistance and in making referrals; handle confidential material and contacts with discretion; train and direct the work of subordinates; operate an automated case management system and utilize various software programs relevant to position; type 45 w.p.m. (net).
Education and Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience in legal secretarial work including two years in a District Attorney's Office or one year as a Legal Secretary II in Sutter County; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Essential Duties require the following physical skills and work requirements:
Requires the ability to maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of exercising sound judgment and rational thinking under varied circumstances; ability to exert a small amount of physical effort in sedentary to light work involving moving from one area of the office to another; ability to see; ability to hear and communicate orally; sufficient hand/eye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as typing, filing, data entry, and/or use of calculator, ten-key adding machine, or other office equipment or supplies.
