Responsibilities
Gregory P. Helfrich & Associates, insurance staff counsel for State Farm Insurance Companies, is seeking a Legal Secretary to join our Summit, NJ CLC office. Responsibilities will include general duties supporting our litigation attorneys with medical records, discovery, e-filing, court and deposition calendars and pleadings/motions/routine correspondence. The most qualified candidates will have the ability to communicate effectively, work independently, and prioritize workload in a fast paced and time sensitive environment. Regular business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The selected candidate will spend time working in the office, but with limited work from home days (if desired) as part of a hybrid work arrangement. This work arrangement could change over time based on our business needs.
Based in Summit, NJ, we enjoy an active and busy civil trial practice. We provide a congenial, collaborative, and professional work environment with skilled support staff.
This position will have a 12-month incumbency period for a lateral move and a 6-month incumbency period for a promotional opportunity (beginning on the effective date of the position) which must be met before the employee can post for any other State Farm position. The incumbency period does not affect the at-will relationship between State Farm and the employee and does not create an employment contract, nor contractual rights.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-5 years of civil litigation experience preferably in insurance defense or personal injury environment
- Experience with medical record requests, calendar management, and discovery process
- Experience with New Jersey E-filing procedures
- Experience with drafting routine correspondence, motions, pleadings, and subpoenas
- Experience in Trial Preparation, coordinating witnesses, schedules, exhibits for trials or hearings, and securing records
- Strong technical agility including proficiency in software technology and tools such as Microsoft Suite, Adobe Professional, and case management software
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, to interact with team member, clients, customers, courts, and vendors in a professional manner
- Ability to work with moderate supervision on clearly defined tasks and priorities
