JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Penn State Lehigh Valley invites applications for a Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in English, multi-year non-tenure line appointment, 36 weeks to begin August 2024.
This is a renewable term appointment.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities include teaching four lower-division writing courses each semester, including one or more of the following: first-year composition, technical writing, business writing, writing in the humanities, writing in the social sciences, and/or introduction to creative writing. An occasional upper-division course in writing for the web may be available. Teaching assignments may include day or evening classes as needed. A path to promotion is available for a successful candidate who (1) remains current in the field through appropriate professional development activities; (2) participates in professional organizations and Penn State course, curriculum, and program development; (3) advises students and provides career guidance; and (4) participates in campus, university, and community service activities.
Qualifications: Candidates must hold at least a master's degree in English, composition, or rhetoric. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is expected. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Prior college-level and online teaching experience preferred. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment and contributing to the diversity of the campus is important. A lecturer should possess at least a master's degree or its equivalent, or be an active candidate for a terminal degree, in an academic field related to their teaching specialization. The Assistant Teaching Professor should possess a terminal degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to his/her teaching specialization; alternatively, the Assistant Teaching Professor without a terminal degree should possess at least a master's degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; must have demonstrated ability as a teacher and adviser; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter
