East Stroudsburg University’s College of Arts and Sciences is looking for a Tenure Track, Non-Teaching, Assistant Professor to lead a variety of academic initiatives in the area of student success. Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to professional markets, careers, and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country’s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.
This nine-month position is housed within the Department of Modern Languages, Philosophy and Religion (a collegial department which includes the Interdisciplinary Studies major and the Philosophy and Spanish majors), but the person hired will interface widely with a variety of constituencies across campus. We seek a person with wide-ranging experience and interests to co-direct several initiatives, some already underway, aimed at increasing student success and retention. The focus areas will likely include the following: development of meta majors cohorts in the arts and sciences for incoming, first-year students; coordination of initial advisement for these students, and clear communication with their subsequent faculty advisors in discipline areas; cultivation of the Interdisciplinary Studies major; advising liaison for student-athletes; and extending pathways and resources for adult learners to finish their degrees. In addition, there will be possible teaching opportunities, and a possible summer assignment to develop a bridge program to reinforce skills of incoming first-year students.
Qualifications
- Earned doctorate, ideally in a discipline within a traditional Arts and Sciences department.
- Experience with several of the following student success initiatives or programs, listed here in approximate order of importance: meta majors coordination, onboarding efforts for first-year students, a variety of discipline-specific advisement, adult re-engagement/completion, and/or coordination of remote learning sites, development of interdisciplinary studies, academic liaison with athletics, direction of summer enrichment.
- Experience working with underrepresented and diverse student populations.
- Record of leadership, higher-ed teaching experience, service to university and community, scholarly activity.
