COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Introduces theories of Visual Culture, ways of seeing, and practices of looking. Focuses on objects of Visual Culture including art, objects of mass/consumer culture, as well as photography and design in journalism and advertising. Explores the importance of critical media literacy in contemporary society and the roles that images play in developing a sense of self. Addresses grammar of visual design, practice, and creative use of images in developing a visual glossary. Develops ability to analyze images critically. Successful candidates will demonstrate in depth knowledge of cultural studies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A master’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Current publications or public presentations that demonstrate expertise in cultural studies
- Teaching experience at the college level or equivalent
- Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A doctorate or equivalent experience.
- 2 years of teaching experience at the college level
- Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.
SALARY COMMENSURATE WITH DEGREE LEVEL AND EXPERIENCE
- Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $1,812 - $3,118 per Weighted Teaching Unit (WTU)
- CSU Classification Salary Range: $999 - $3,679 per Weighted Teaching Unit (WTU)
