The BioResource and Agricultural Engineering Department in the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applications for a two-year full-time academic year lecturer in Engineering Surveying starting September 16, 2024, ending June 13, 2026.
This position will teach undergraduate classes in Engineering Surveying. Candidates must have knowledge of basic surveying skills including use of automatic levels, total stations, RTK GNSS units and data collectors. Candidates must also have knowledge in surveying concepts such as static GNSS surveys, imaging stations, understanding of datum, licensing laws and the land surveying profession
Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2022, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
Lecturer A: $4,530-$6,056
Lecturer B: $5,405-$11,994
Lecturer C: $6,190-$13,172
Lecturer D: $7,794-$13,797

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIALIZED SKILLS:

  • B.S. degree with a minimum of 5-years experience as a surveyor and professional registration as a Land Surveyor or Civil Engineer OR an advanced degree (Ph.D. or M.S.) in relevant discipline with experience in land surveying.
  • Knowledge of basic surveying skills including use of automatic levels, total stations, RTK GNSS units and data collectors.
  • Knowledge of surveying concepts such as static GNSS surveys, imaging stations, understanding of datum, licensing laws and the land surveying profession
  • The ability to hike to and around the survey practice fields around campus, as well as occasional setting or resetting of monuments and maintenance of surveying equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required.
  • The ability to be a productive team player and to interact well with peers, students, industry, government agencies, and the public.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and strong interest in undergraduate teaching.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

M.S. in Geodesy, Geomatic Engineering, or a closely related discipline is preferred. Professional registration as a Land Surveyor or Civil Engineer is also preferred.
The ability to collaborate with faculty across the College and University is desirable. Preference will be given to those with experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience who bring professional capabilities and those with the ability to build connections with industry and foster new relationships.
