Summary
Magic Mountain Children's Center is seeking a Lead Toddler Teacher to work in our toddler classroom which serves children ages 18-32 months. You along with an Assistant Teacher will implement the daily curriculum for up 8 children daily. The Lead Teacher is primarily responsible for the care and education of the group of children they have been assigned to. As a member of the Magic Mountain Children’s Center teaching team the Lead Teacher plans and implements developmentally appropriate curriculum, engages regularly with families, observes and records children’s progress, and maintains a code of conduct that adheres to and supports the program mission. The lead teacher is responsible for providing support and supervision to teaching assistants, floats, substitutes and volunteers.
Duties
Responsibilities
  • Plans and facilitates developmentally appropriate activities for children daily including music, language, math, science, art, dramatic play, cooking, dance and movement activities
  • Ensures that children are adequately supervised
  • Promotes critical thinking and problem solving
  • Promotes a balance between child-initiated and teacher-initiated activities, and bases projects on the interests of the children
  • Acts without bias and projects sensitivity towards cultural diversity
  • Promotes independence, cooperation and positive self-esteem and self-concept
  • Provides nurturing attention and uses positive approaches to guide behavior
  • Follows proper procedures for diapering, dispensing of medications and universal precautions
  • Encourages children to use proper hygiene
  • Arrives on time and is prepared to manage and teach the children each day
  • Provides classroom supervision to the Assistant Teacher, Classroom Aides or Substitute staff that are in their classroom
  • Provides organization for how cleaning is to be managed in their classroom

Administrative
  • Observes, records and communicates the development of children
  • Keeps the executive director informed of issues and events pertaining to the program and/or children
  • Keeps track of the children’s attendance
  • Assures that the center is kept neat and clean
  • Enforces health policies
  • Completes proper forms and reports as necessary and in a timely manner

Communication
  • Provides parents with information about their child’s experience for the day
  • Treats parents with respect, equally and as partners
  • Conducts parent conferences at minimum twice per year
  • Shares material and ideas with staff
  • Listens to feedback from colleagues at MMCC
  • Provides feedback to colleagues at MMCC
  • Be an equal part of the team and share your views and opinions as appropriate.
  • Follows appropriate procedures and protocol for grievances with parents, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Help peers, the Director and the Board plan for the future of MMCC

Professionalism
  • Maintains an ethical and professional manner with children, colleagues and parents
  • Maintains a positive nature with families, staff and local shareholders
  • Participates in continuing education and professional development workshops as required
  • Current with required certifications
  • Supports MMCC philosophies and policies
  • Awareness of the local and national issues concerning early childhood education
  • Respect the confidentiality of children, families and colleagues
  • Respect cultural, economic, gender, sexual orientation and other differences
  • Is aware of and understands their responsibilities as a MANDATED REPORTER of child abuse and neglect
  • Completes the orientation process as laid out by MMCC

Professional Development
  • Completes all required orientation training and CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Attends a minimum of 18 hours of professional in-service training annually per state licensing requirements
  • Maintains an ethical and professional manner with children, colleagues and parents
  • Maintains a positive nature with families, staff and local shareholders
  • Current with required certifications
  • Supports MMCC philosophies and policies
  • Awareness of the local and national issues concerning early childhood education
  • Respect the confidentiality of children, families and colleagues
  • Respect cultural, economic, gender, sexual orientation and other differences
  • Is aware of and maintains their role as a MANDATED REPORTER of child abuse and neglect
  • Completes the orientation process as laid out by MMCC

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Is at least 20 years of age, is a high school graduate or has completed their GED and has one of the following qualifications:
  • A vermont Early Childhood Ladder Level Three Certificate
  • An associate degree with a major or concentration in Early Childhood, Child and Human Development, Elementary Education, or Child and Family Services
  • Certificate of Completion from the Registered Child Care Apprenticeship Program
  • Child Care Certificate from the Community College of Vermont
  • Completion of the CDA in Infant and Toddler Care
  • Successful completion of 12 college credits with early childhood or school age focus
  • Minimum one year of experience working with children grade 3 and younger
  • Ability to relate well with children
  • Understanding of curriculum development for the age group assigned to
  • Attend 18 hours of professional development annually
  • Excellent written and verbal skills

Nice To Haves
  • Prior experience as a Lead Teacher and mentoring staff
  • A minimum of at least 21 college credits in early childhood or school aged focus
  • Prior experience with the use of parent communication software such Brightwheels, Himama, and Procare
