Responsibilities
Lead Lab Tech
Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing quality healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities. Aiken Regional Medical Centers has been ranked a top hospital in South Carolina by the Carolina Center for Medical Excellence for its treatment of heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia. Services provided at the hospital include emergency medical care, orthopedic surgeries, maternity, and behavioral health services.

Lead Lab Tech assumes technical responsibility for a clinical section of the laboratory. They are responsible for ensuring that all persons working in the department are properly trained and competent. They also ensure that the department meets all regulatory requirements. They work in close contact with the Clinical Lab Director in the day-to-day operations.
Duties:
  • Acts as a resource and provides technical advice to physician, nursing and laboratory associates in clinical laboratory procedures
  • Actively participates and maintains always survey readiness.
  • Provides an effective orientation and training of new and current associates as appropriate
  • Troubleshoots and displays leadership role in the absence of the POC, manager and director.
  • Writes, revises, reviews and maintains an effective document control system.
  • Effectively performs, documents and reviews QA activities following SOP.
  • Monitors pending workload and communicates effectively as needed
  • Leads and takes ownership of projects assigned and completes in a timely manner.
  • Completes CLIA required annual competencies TIMELY
  • Communicates with lab leadership on concerns affecting lab operations, quality and errors.
  • Communicates and handles problems with customers in a timely manner.
  • Maintains adequate inventory and supplies in their section.
  • Follows GLP in validations and QC as required by CLIA and accreditations.
  • Assists in preparation of annual budget, capital needs and minor equipment in their section.
  • Attends staff meetings in person or virtually
  • Monitor performance of PT surveys in the department section and provide corrective action appropriately and education when needed.
  • Communicates with peers and staff any changes related to their section in timely manner

Qualifications
Position Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Lab Science required
2 years of experience in the department for which they will be responsible. Must be able to demonstrate competency in the area.
Registered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology or an equivalent registry preferred.
