About the role

Your Impact as Lab Technician:

In this role you will perform chemical, physical and adhesion tests on raw materials, finished goods, in process and special samples to ensure that only acceptable material is released or processed. This role is 100% onsite and will report to the Quality Manager, and is in Rome, GA.


Essential Functions

  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates laboratory equipment and instruments such as carbon determinator, profile projectors and other equipment to test for specific qualities such as adhesion, torsion, flexion, tensile strength, elongation, breaking load, etc.
  • Performs laboratory test in accordance with prescribed standards to determine physical and chemical characteristics of wire samples.
  • Performs laboratory test in accordance with prescribe standards to determine composition of solid or liquid materials.
  • Takes actions such as writing rework tickets to ensure that only acceptable material is released.
  • Records test results using personal computer on standardized forms and writes test reports describing procedures used to provide adequate support documentation.
  • Inputs batch control data and releases final product batches for test reporting.
  • Reviews test report data and approves/releases test reports/shipments to the customer.
  • Performs reception control, reviews vendor data and release raw materials for plant use.
  • Performs test equipment maintenance, repair and calibration as required.
  • Orders test supplies such as rubber compound, naphtha, etc. to ensure smooth lab operation.
  • Prepares appropriate customer pre-samples as required.
  • Send test reports to the customer via telex, email, etc.
  • Performs MSA analysis and compiles statistical data to determine and maintain the quality of test equipment and production process.
  • Instructs production technicians and visitors on lab process.
  • Orders office supplies and ensures maintenance of office equipment.
  • Maintains neat and orderly workplace to contribute to efficient laboratory operations.
  • Work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    • Approximately 90% of work time is spent within a laboratory and/or office environment while the remaining 10% is spent within production and related areas of the plant.
    • When entering and while remaining within designated areas of the plant, the employee is required to wear standard safety equipment consisting of approved eye protection, safety shoes and, if applicable, hearing protection

About You

Essential skills & competencies

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
  • Basic knowledge in the use of personal computers, computer networks and computer-controlled test equipment and technical and statistical training desired.
  • Mental Requirements: The following mental requirements are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

    • Negotiate (shipping times with planning)
    • Observe (condition of samples received)
    • Plan (work schedule)
    • Select (samples for analysis and shipment to customers)
    • Solve (testing problems)
    • Sort (samples and test reports)
    • Stress (in meeting pre-determined test schedules)
    • Supervise (self control and discipline)
    • Train (production ,quality and other Bekaert plant personnel)
    • Verify (wire quality and test results
