The Position

The Jr. Staff Accountant brought into the Mission understands and embodies our calling of changing homelessness in San Diego County through Christ. This individual must also further the mission, vision, and values of the San Diego Rescue Mission through the work they perform by being an intricate part of the Finance department. This position works solely from our headquarters office in Downtown San Diego.

Generally, our Jr. Staff Accountant will manage all accounts payable tasks as well as provide administrative and clerical support in the Finance department. We wear many hats and tend to roll up our sleeves to get things done, which means you never stop learning.

This position reports to and works closely with the Accounting Manager where they will perform tasks and services to support effective and efficient operations of the San Diego Rescue Mission's Finance department.

Key job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Full cycle accounts payable & receivable.
  • Conduct monthly bank and credit card reconciliation.
  • Assist in monthly closing.
  • Other general ledger account reconciliations may be requested from time to time.
  • Annual 1099 and 1098 processing.
  • Assist with annual audit by gathering and maintaining necessary documentation and by preparing supporting schedules, confirmations, adjusting journal entries, etc. as related to job requirements.

Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

Experience

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree preferably in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of accounting experience.
  • Experience working at a nonprofit organization preferred.
  • Experience in a faith-based entity preferred.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong proficiency in working with Microsoft Excel.
  • SAGE Intacct experience preferred.
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks and see them through to completion.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong follow-through and a focus on owning the outcome.
  • Expert computer skills ability in using Microsoft® operating systems, Microsoft Office® and other database type systems.
  • Comfortable adapting to change and finding solutions.

Important Notes

Position Details: This is a full-time hourly (non-exempt) position (40+ hours/week).

Pay: The rate of pay for this California-based position is $25.00 per hour. If your experience looks a little different from what we've listed and you think can bring value to the San Diego Rescue Mission, we would love to learn more about you and encourage you to apply.

Dress code: We work in a business casual dress attire environment, with casual-dress Fridays. The dress code does vary by position and department, please consult with your hiring manager to confirm your applicable dress code at the time of hire.

Supervisory: No supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to push, move, lift or otherwise bear 10-30lbs.
