REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Senior Billing Specialist

SUMMARY of DUTIES:

The Mental Health Association of Westchester is currently seeking a Junior Billing Specialist. The Junior Billing Specialist is responsible for submitting claims for clinic services, including fee for service programs. The responsibilities require concentrating on details, understanding program requirements, and many database functions. The Junior Billing Specialist will work with a person-centered and trauma-informed philosophy in alignment with the values of MHA.

SPECIFIC DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare claims for submission to various carriers via an appropriate method.

• Ensures that all claims are submitted before filing deadlines.

• Investigate denials and follow up on collections.

• Keep the Billing Coordinator abreast of all issues encountered and participate in resolving these problems.

• Assist other areas of billing and perform other tasks as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:

• Knowledge of behavioral health terminology and Codes.

• Functional knowledge of Medicaid regulations and NY billing rules.

• Proficient in medical billing software, specifically Netsmart myEvolv

• Proficient with computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Excel.

• Proven ability to maintain client confidentiality.

• The Junior Billing Specialist must be a highly motivated independent worker who always maintains confidentiality.

• Must be organized, demonstrate excellent follow-up, and pay attention to detail.

• Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively.

• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team; offers to assist coworkers when needed.

• Consistently displays a positive attitude towards one’s work and work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two years’ experience in medical billing.

• High School Diploma Required.

• Clearance from the NYS Justice Center through fingerprinting for a Criminal History Records search, NYS Staff Exclusion List (SEL), and NYS Medicaid Exclusion List.

• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
