POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title:Junior Accountant
Department: Accounting
Classification: Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $18-$22 an hour depending on experience
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Position reportsto: Assistant Controller
Positions Supervised: None
POSITION PURPOSE
The Junior Accountant is responsible for performing bookkeeping duties in the maintenance and operation of account processing for all payable transactions for the business. The Junior Accountant also performs tasks necessary to reconcile general ledger (GL) accounts and provides assistance as needed with period-end closings.
This is a growth oriented role, designed to develop candidate and progress career within general ledger accounting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering and sorting documents and related information.
- Pays invoices by verifying transaction information; scheduling and preparing disbursements; obtaining authorization for payments.
- Prepare expense accrual journal entries by communicating with other departments, and analyzing GL and invoice history.
- Prepare and post payment remittances of fees collected to various vendors.
- Reconcile high transaction volume GL accounts, researching and resolving differences.
- Professional and timely correspondence with branch and department personnel to resolve GL discrepancies.
- Provide assistance with audit requests from external auditors.
- Perform responsibilities of position in accordance with federal and state regulations, credit union policies and procedures.
- Maintains financial historical records by filing accounting documents.
- Results-oriented with ability to work as a team-player.
- Open & sort daily Finance mail and distribute.
- Maintains vendor W-9 forms and follows up as needed.
- Maintains document storage records.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
Associate’s degree, plus three – five years of related experience, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge:
Thorough knowledge of accounting principles.
This position requires that the employee gain a working knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) requirements and how they will affect their work. The employee will comply with all requirements of the BSA and cooperate with the designated BSA Officer in assuring compliance.

Intermediate level Excel/Word
Skills/Abilities:
Ability to project a professional appearance and positive attitude at all times.
Excellent written, verbal communication and analytical skills.
Ability to quickly and accurately enter data into system with emphasis on attention to detail.
Bilingual a plus.
