DAYS/HOURS TBD (Flexible) DEFINITION Under direct or general supervision, performs applications programming, development, and analysis including conducting systems analyses and working with user departments to define systems requirements and support systems operations; conducts program testing, prepares documentation; performs a variety of computer system, software application, and database maintenance tasks; and performs related duties as assigned. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives direct supervision from the Information Technology Supervisor. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.
May provide technical and functional direction to assigned staff. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS Systems Analyst I: This is the entry-level classification in the Systems Analyst series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents are responsible for defining systems requirements and structure and performing program development and installation.
Incumbents also support related department functions, such as computer operations, systems support, and related areas. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the II level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods.
Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Systems Analyst II: This is the journey-level classification in this series, capable of the full range of independent duties. Positions at this level are distinguished from the I level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently and exercising judgment and initiative.
Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Incumbents are responsible for more complex systems analysis and programming duties and operations support, and may have lead responsibility over others. The positions in the Systems Analyst class series are flexibly staffed and positions at the II level are normally filled by advancement from the I level requiring two (2) additional years of experience and after gaining the knowledge, skill, and experience which meet the qualifications for and after demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher-level class.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in computer science, management information systems, or a closely related field.
Systems Analyst II: Two (2) year experience providing programming and technical support services equivalent to a Systems Analyst I with Tuolumne County. Equivalency can be obtained by meeting one of the following criteria: 1) Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in management information systems, computer science or a closely related field and four (4) years of experience in computer operations, telecommunications or PC user support, maintenance and repair, including at least two (2) years of which were at a level equivalent to the Tuolumne County IT Technician II. 2) Six (6) years of experience in computer operations, telecommunications or PC user support, maintenance and repair, including at least two (2) years of which were at a level equivalent to the Tuolumne County IT Technician II.
Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Additional Information Relief employees receive no benefit package and serve at the pleasure of their department head. Relief positions are temporary positions and may have either a fixed schedule or be used on a fill in basis.
