It Systems Administrator

Overview

The IT System Administrator position is a fulltime exempt position. The individual will be responsible for providing day to day support of a Windows-based infrastructure, including servers, desktops, laptops, and Microsoft applications onboard the SBX vessel in support of operational deployments. The individual will also support the program Facility Security Officer (FSO).

Roles & Responsibilities

• Oversees the day-to-day operations of computer networks including hardware/software support, training, and compliance with customer policies and procedures onboard the SBX vessel.
• Performs scheduled network tasks, updates anti-virus definition files, monitors network servers, and provides internet and intranet user support, and specialized training.
• Support implementation for all LAN services, Virtual Private Networks (VPN), Windows Server environment, applications systems, IT processes and procedures.
• Effectively maintain complex Windows environments including implementation and support of both physical and virtual Windows-based servers.
• Monitors usage to ensure security of data and access privileges.
• Establishes and maintains user accounts, profiles, file sharing, access privileges, email accounts, anti-spam/virus programs and security.
• Researches, analyzes, monitors, troubleshoots and resolves server or data network problems.
• Researches and evaluates new technologies related to computer networking, HW or SW.
• Serves as the primary interface with the IT vendors for the acquisition and implementation of software, hardware, and other services.
• Assists FSO with overall security program and in maintaining information systems in compliance with NISPOM, DoD and other US Government agency security requirements.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Competencies

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related technical discipline
• Minimum of 8 years related experience in information technology or system/network administration in the defense industry
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
• The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
• Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) experience required
• Experience with Guardian Edge and Symantec encryption software, Symantec backup software, and a basic understanding of Cisco operating environments preferred

Physical Requirements

• Must pass a Coast Guard / D.O.T pre-employment physical
• Must be able to reside in and work in confined spaces
• Work in adverse or violent motion onboard a vessel
• Lift, push, pull and carry between 30-60 lbs up to 400 feet
• Must be able to climb steep or vertical ladders

Security Clearance

• Candidate must have an active Secret clearance.

Travel

• Up to 75% per year to deployed locations around the world.
• 12-hour shifts aboard
