IT Support Specialist II (internal title IT Administrator II)
WHAT YOU WILL ACHIEVE
As an IT Administrator II, you will be the primary internal IT technical support for our staff of around 115 employees. Your day-to-day will involve assisting employees with computer issues and ensuring staff are on/off boarded with care and diligence. The role provides great support, an opportunity to learn, and does not include any on-call responsibilities. Addgene’s Headquarters is in Watertown, MA and boasts a modern office with up-to-date equipment.

LOCATION
This position allows a flexible hybrid schedule, with the onsite portion (preferably 3-4 days/week) working from our Watertown, Massachusetts Headquarters. Our beautiful office space has ample parking with a free shuttle from Harvard Square and is on multiple bus lines, with the cost of public transit covered by Addgene. Monday - Friday only, no after hours or weekends.

In joining our team as an “Addgenie”, you will work with multidisciplinary internal teams to help fulfill this mission, including scientists, software engineers and product developers, renowned customer support teams, marketing gurus, and business development professionals. Together, Addgenies create and enhance opportunities for research scientists to deposit their materials, find products and resources easily on our website, and receive unparalleled support in receiving and expertly using our materials in their own experiments.
The Role:
As the Addgene IT Administrator II, you will be the primary point of contact for our staff's technical support, including a mix of onsite and remote employees.
To Succeed in this role you will:
On / off board staff in a timely, accurate, and complete manner. This includes:
Provisioning workstations (generally laptops -- healthy mix of Windows & Mac)
User access (Directory services, email, chat, etc)
Working closely with HR
Take point on helpdesk tickets. This includes resolving issues like:
Workstation problems
VPN connectivity
Software failures
Problems with the phone system (VOIP)
Problems printing
Setting up peripherals such as docks
Manage the audio / video systems
We have dedicated appliances in each conference room
Provide AV support for hybrid all staff meetings
Supporting security tools like:
Antivirus
Password management
Assist with managing a variety of platforms. These include:
Jumpcloud
Jamf
Google Workspace / Gmail
Slack / Zoom
Google Drive / Office 365 / Dropbox
Jira
Vonage
ESET
1Password
Provide training for our staff on our software and tools
Keep our fleet of workstations up to date
This includes periodically replacing systems
Assist others in the Platform Engineering group with the management of a smattering of on-site servers. (Replacing drives, etc)
Automate daily tasks as needed
Job Qualifications
Candidates should be enthusiastic, self-motivated, organized individuals who want to be a part of Addgene’s mission.
Skills
3+ years IT experience*
Networking (VOIP, VPN, cabling, wireless)
Windows Active Directory, Azure AD or Jumpcloud experience (Jumpcloud would be ideal)*
Windows OS & macOS
Google Workspace
Ability to work independently / minimal supervision
Scripting (ex. powershell) would be a nice bonus
Competencies
You have excellent problem-solving skills, and the tenacity and creativity to think through issues before escalating
You are able to communicate thoughtfully and effectively in order to establish yourself as a trusted resource
You have the innate desire to help others
You are able to sit for prolonged periods of time in front of a computer. Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy equipment (up to 25 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking.
