POSITION SUMMARY
The Inventory Specialist will need to be highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to oversee the food ordering, distribution, and inventory management for cottages dedicated to housing youth. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that the nutritional needs of the youth are met, and that inventory is efficiently maintained to support daily operations. In addition, this role will actively promote and implement inventory management process in the workplace and adhere to food standards that are congruent with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) guidelines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Food Ordering
-Order a variety of food items, ensuring compliance with food standards congruent with ISBE guidelines.
- Monitor inventory levels to prevent shortages and ensure timely reordering.
- Distribution and Allocation:
- Develop and implement a system for the efficient distribution of food supplies to various cottages.
- Collaborate with on-site staff to understand specific dietary requirements and preferences of the youth.
- Inventory Management:
- Maintain accurate records of all incoming and outgoing food items.
- Conduct regular inventory audits to identify discrepancies and implement corrective measures.
- Implement and maintain a system for first-in, first-out (FIFO) rotation of food items.
- Maintain inventory management processes, ensuring a clean, organized, and efficient workspace.
- Quality Control:
- Ensure that all food items meet food standards congruent with ISBE guidelines, including nutritional requirements.
- Implement proper storage and handling procedures to prevent spoilage or contamination.
- Manage Kanban tracking board for each cottage.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with program managers and on-site staff to understand the unique needs of each cottage.
- Communicate effectively with vendors to address any issues related to quality, delivery, or pricing.
SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Ability to learn the CARE practice model and implement daily programming consistent with CARE principles.
- Ability to learn the TCI curriculum successfully pass TCI written and physical restraint tests and remain current with required TCI refresher training and conduct TCI techniques with fidelity to the model.
- Must enjoy actively engaging youth, be emotionally mature, patient, and communicate empathy toward youth.
- Prefer candidates who are kind, generous and have a good sense of humor.
- Must be able to sufficiently use Excel, Microsoft Teams, and Word.
- Must be detail-oriented and show organizational skills when using the Kanban Tracker and FIFO systems.
- Must focus on the nutritional needs of the youth by understanding and following the ISBE guidelines.
- Ability to plan and order online for all products that are used to maintain the kitchen and the food for 36 children weekly.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree in human services and related experience preferred.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Illinois driver's license.
- Must possess and maintain proof of automobile insurance.
CARE & TCI
One of the essential job functions of any position within the agency is to align your performance with our overarching philosophy of CARE. All decisions, actions, communication, and performance should align with the six CARE principles (Developmentally Focused, Family Involved, Relationship Based, Ecologically Oriented, Competence Centered, and Trauma Informed). Not only must you complete the CARE training with satisfactory participation, but you must then put that training into practice in your everyday work.
Every employee must also pass TCI training with a satisfactory grade in written and/or physical testing. All employees must remain current on refresher training that is provided monthly at all locations. You will be tested every 6 months on the physical portion if applicable to your position. You will be tested annually on the written portion regardless of your position. If you are not current on your TCI refresher training every six months, you will be required to retake the full course. If you do not pass either test, you may be required to retake the full course. Not only must you complete the TCI training with satisfactory participation, but you must then put that training into practice in your everyday work.
