The posted salary range budgeted for this position is between $5,521.58 and $7,288.58 monthly. New hires will be typically brought into the agency at a starting salary between the posted minimum and the average pay of employees in their same classification in the Office of Technology unless the average pay exceeds the midpoint for the state position’s classification salary group. Offers will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications and will thoughtfully consider internal pay equity for agency staff who perform similar duties and have similar qualifications. The top half of the posted salary range is generally reserved for candidates who far exceed the requirements and qualifications for the role.

Position Overview
The Intune/Desktop Support Specialist is responsible for providing technical support and assistance in managing Intune policies and configurations, as well as desktop support services. This role involves smooth operation of Intune-managed devices and supports TEA users with hardware/software problems promptly and efficiently. The Support Specialist will work closely with end-users to troubleshoot their issues, deploy software and updates, and configure Intune settings to align with organizational requirements. The Support Specialist will play crucial role in maintaining the stability, security, and functionality of managing all TEA devices across the organization.
This position works under minimal direction with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. This position reports to the Cloud Support Manager under the Director of Information Technology Operations.

The Intune/Desktop Support Specialist will work a hybrid schedule with at two to three in-person days each week.

About Office of IT
The Office of Information Technology works closely with all agency divisions to implement innovative technology solutions in a cost-efficient manner that supports the goals and priorities of the Texas Education Agency. The Office of IT provides efficient technology solutions and stellar customer services to internal staff, 20 Educational Service Centers, and 1,200-plus public-school districts and charter schools. The following services are provided by IT: leadership on IT initiatives; guidance on security/policy issues; new application development/enhancements; software acquisition; technical support; assistance with technical sections of purchasing documents such as Request for Information (RFI), Request for Offers (RFO), Request for Proposals (RFP); and oversight on the data collection process which helps to support and improve outcomes for all of Texas’ 5 million-plus students.

Essential Functions
1. Intune Management: configure, deploy, and manage Intune policies and settings to ensure the security, compliance, and optimal performance of devices across the organization.
2. Customer Support and Help Desk: provides support to the Desktop support team work on all escalated tickets and ensure that all incidents are resolved and closed in a timely manner based upon priority.
3. Monitoring and Optimization: Track device inventory, compliance status, security incidents, and usage statistics using Intune reporting tools. Generate and distribute reports on device health, policy effectiveness and potential security risks to the leadership team, helping them make informed decisions and maintain a secure and well-managed environment.
4. Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve processes for the Desktop support team. Stay UpToDate with emerging technologies and industry best practices.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited two-year college or university
  • Experience: At least three (3) years of experience administering and managing Intune or other mobile device management (MDM) solutions; proficiency in troubleshooting desktop hardware, software, and network issues
  • Substitutions: Each additional year of related experience above the required minimum may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
Other Qualifications
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate or similar are preferred.
  • Experience with managing mobile devices through Intune or other MDM solutions.
  • Basic scripting skills in PowerShell or other scripting languages are often a plus.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like Azure Active Directory (AAD) and Azure AD Connect.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • Ability to lead and mentor a team of desktop support technicians.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
