Department or School Site The Furniture and Interiors Group (F+IG) within the Project Execution
Branch is responsible for the commissioning of school furniture and
equipment activities in support of new and existing school construction
projects including charter schools. F+IG researches appropriate Program
furniture and equipment requirements, and assists the school with the
selection of furniture and equipment, budget management, space and
interiors planning, acquisition, delivery, and installation. For more

Job Duties/Responsibilities An Interior Designer provides interior design services and coordinates
the selection, placement, delivery, and set-up of furniture and equipment
for educational programs, school sites, and offices. Typical duties may
include:
- Conferring with clients to evaluate their furniture, fixtures, and
equipment needs and developing efficient solutions within budget,
schedule, and standards
- Developing space plans and interior architectural layouts; and selects
furnishings, equipment, and interior finishes for schools in accordance
with District and industry standards
- Reviewing and evaluating construction documents and visiting project
sites to confirm that space plans, design concepts, and selected furniture
and equipment are safe, functional, and aesthetically appropriate and
meets all public health, safety, and welfare requirements including fire
and life safety code, accessibility, environmental, and sustainability
guidelines
Minimum Requirements Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s
degree preferably in interior design, architecture, or related field and
three years of full-time experience conceptualizing, planning, selecting,
and coordinating interior layouts, interior building finishes, furniture, and
equipment.
OR
Completion of 40 semester units or equivalent related to interior design
from a recognized college or university and five years of full-time
experience conceptualizing, planning, selecting, and coordinating interior
layouts, interior building finishes, furniture, and equipment.
Desirable Qualifications We are seeking candidates with in-depth knowledge of principles,
practices, and techniques of facilities design, space planning, and project
management; fire and life safety code, ADA, and pertinent building codes
as they relate to furniture and equipment; and project scheduling and
budget preparation.
The ideal candidate has the ability to plan and design interior spaces and
specify furniture and equipment; communicate effectively, both orally and
in writing with Facilities personnel, school administrators, and staff; and
operate major software systems relating to the work and industry.
Additionally, possession of a California Certified Interior Designer
Certificate (CCIDC) or from the National Council for Interior Design
Qualification (NCIDQ) is preferable.

Selection and promotion are based on a competitive employment
