Position Summary: The Assistant Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the Graduate Applied Data Science Programs. Responsibilities include supervision of the Graduate Applied Data Science program graduate assistants, recruitment support, enrollment support, retention of high quality graduate students, and maintaining the operations of the program. The specific emphasis of this position is on managing student participation in various applied data science projects serving the Clarkson community and its external stakeholders. These projects will accomplish key educational objectives of our program and be a source of our competitive advantage. In addition, this position entails responsibility for instructional delivery and support as needed throughout the Master of Science in Applied Data Science (MSADS) curriculum.
General Purpose: The Assistant Director will manage the overall operations of recruiting/admissions processes, student mentoring and academic achievement support. In addition, the Assistant Director will manage all aspects of the applied practical work of graduate students which include support for the research, consulting and outreach activities of our program. In its capacity as the Assistant Director ofInstructional Support, the employee will be called upon to execute various aspects of Instructional Support for the MSADS curriculum: recitation sessions, labs, etc.
Position Responsibilities:
Instruction and Engagement
- Graduate Assistants (GAs) for the MSADS program (2-4 fully supported GAs and 5-7 partially supported GAs) will report to the Assistant Director.
- The Assistant Director will supervise all GAs with regard to all internal and external applied data science projects undertaken under the auspices of the MSADS program
- Assist with developing and implementing a comprehensive system that integrates the core functions related to the marketing, recruitment, enrollment and support of graduate students.
- Manage a team; work with the team of GAs to achieve goals in a variety of Applied data science projects; provide Instructional Support for the MSADS program faculty; act as an example for team members; provide continuing education and support to the team.
Enrollment Management
- Serve as the liaison between the Graduate School recruiting and marketing team and the MSADS program. Work with both groups to create and realize synergies of collaboration.
- Help develop and execute an annual marketing and recruiting plan to recruit Graduate Applied Data Science students which will ensure the highest quality, quantity, and diversity of applicants that can be achieved.
- Attend virtual and in person events with potential Graduate Applied Data Science students when needed or as appropriate.
- Maintain relationships with partner schools of MSADS Programs.
- Help in the development of new partner school articulation agreements.
- Coordinate open house events for potential MSADS students for the Potsdam Campus and assist with events at the Capital Region Campus.
- Manage application processes focused on yielding accepted students for MSADS.
- Communicate admissions and scholarship decisions to students and welcome them to their program.
- Develop appropriate outreach strategies, for example "Faculty Welcome Emails," to lead to a higher yield rate of accepted students.
- Serve as the liaison to continue development of enrollment management software for the Graduate Business Programs such as SLATE, PeopleSoft, and Moodle.
Student and Faculty Academic Support
- Provide both academic and personal support to all Graduate Applied Data Science students throughout their experience with Clarkson.
- Develop and implement graduate students orientation programs for new students each year.
- Support the instructional delivery of the MSADS curriculum through presentations, lab sessions, and tutoring sessions.
- Help manage and coordinate resource allocation for the instructional delivery: lab space, classroom space, hardware, software and service resources
Career Advising
- Manage the Career Course Seminar Series with the Director of the Career Center for all students in the residential program.
- Assist students with resume and cover letter development.
- Connect students with job opportunities and alumni at the Career Fair.
- Coordinate internships and special consulting projects for MS students when appropriate.
Alumni Engagement
- Develop an active graduate business school alumni network that provides opportunities for alumni to interact with graduate business students.
- Enhance the alumni network to provide more professional development opportunities for both current students and alumni.
- Collaborate with the Alumni Relations Office to increase the overall participation level of graduate business student alums.
Program Management and Strategic Development
- Collect student and faculty feedback to evaluate the graduate applied data science program and continue to look for improvements.
- Maintain the Assurance of Learning Process for the graduate business programs to ensure data is collected each term and that the Graduate Policy Committee receives this information to continue to review the curriculum for improvement.
- Evaluate the graduate student experience from inquiry to graduation to ensure best practices are being implemented throughout.
- Collaborate with other departments across campuses to look for synergies and improve overall efficiencies.
- Implement a strategic plan each year for the graduate applied data science program that will continue to move the programs forward.

Essential Skills:
- Deep understanding and mastery of the curriculum of the MSADS program
- Professional level of expertise in Data Science Platforms, including Python and its various libraries, R, SQL as well as Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau

Education:
Minimal Qualifications: A Master's degree in Applied Data Science or compatible field is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Management and supervision experience in a higher education graduate program department.
- Familiarity with educational ERP software such as PeopleSoft, HubSpot and Slate is highly recommended.
- Current knowledge of university regulations and standards is a plus.
Experience:
Minimal Qualifications:
- At least two years of experience in designing, developing and executing data science technologies, solutions and methodologies
- Two years of responsibility in instructional development, delivery and support
- Management experience is required
