Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County seeks a new team member to help make a difference in individual lives and in the community. The Program Assistant will support implementation of activities to provide adults with opportunities to learn, help children succeed in school, and promote reading in the community.
Duties include: Provide math instruction to adult participants individually or in small groups; Help with recruitment, enrollment, and support of participants and volunteers; assist with logistical and administrative tasks for program activities; and help with agency-wide efforts such as public relations and fundraising.
Candidates should be proficient in performing and in communicating High School/GED level math such as fractions, percent, basic geometry & probability, and beginning algebra. This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule depending on availability of participants. Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required to meet the needs of program participants and volunteers. Reliable transportation is essential since frequent travel throughout Wayne County will be required.
Candidates should be passionate about learning and helping others, goal oriented, and able to work both independently and as part of a larger team. Previous work history in a related field – such as non-profit services, education, training, or similar – is preferred. Strong computer and communication skills are required.
Salary negotiable from $16.00/ hr
