Museum Instructor/Registration Assistant for Collections

The Museum Instructor for Collections will assist with the care and documentation of the Museum’s rich and varied collections, spanning 5,000 years of human creativity. This position will report to the Associate Registrar for Collections and Collections Information, and be closely aligned with the work of Collections Information, Collections Management, Curatorial and Conservation meeting the Brooklyn Museum’s high standards set for registration and collections care.

Qualifications:

· B.A.; coursework in Art History, Arts Administration, MLIS, Museum Studies preferred, or 1 year related experience

· Excellent research, communication, and organizational skills

· Meticulous attention to detail and thorough record keeping

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Google Docs, Drive, Sheets, and Meet

· Previous experience with collections databases (preferably TMS) and data entry

· Visual acuity and an ability to lift moderately heavy boxes and books

Responsibilities:

· Assist Associate Registrar with quarterly Collections Committee meeting preparations for deaccessions

· Assist with preliminary research of collection accession files and archives for deaccession restrictions; document restrictions in files and collections database.

· Assist with inventory and collection review projects, including support for object cataloging and record creation.

· Assist with deaccession disposal efforts.

· Assist with collections information cleanup and record reconciliation as needed.

· Assist with collection queries, object identification, and other TMS projects as needed.
