Provides high quality instruction so that each student may meet learning outcomes, and acts a rotational Program Director for the Dental Hygiene program. Works with the dean and colleagues to improve student learning experiences. Performs other instructional responsibilities as assigned and determined by the dean. Plans, organizes, facilitates, and assesses operations of the Dental Hygiene program, program courses, facilities and related activities and events while assigned on Program Director assignment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Helps advance the role and goals of a comprehensive community college as an instructor and Program Director, including assessing and implementing continuous improvements of the Dental Hygiene program.
  2. Teaches a range of community college courses, which may include developmental, transfer, or career-technical courses. Ensures labs and student materials are maintained as needed.
  3. Creates a learning environment for students inclusive of diverse cultural, social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  4. Coordinates lab and clinic schedules for first and/or second year students.
  5. Collaborates with faculty and staff from other departments and divisions to promote communication, coordinate programs, and support student success.
  6. Prepares clear learning outcomes for each course, and informs students of learning outcomes in a course syllabus.
  7. Participates in college service and activities outside direct instruction, such as registration, curriculum development, advising, strategic planning, and educational assessment. Supports student recruitment, placement, and retention.
  8. Posts and keeps office hours to be available to students for assistance outside the classroom.
  9. Teaches at least one evening section per year as needed.
  10. Keeps professionally current by participating in professional development and other activities; maintains current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation.
  11. Maintains active liaison with high schools, universities, business and industry, professional organizations, community-based organizations, and external agencies and commissions as needed to fulfill duties, and assists the dean with program advisory committees as appropriate.
  12. Prepare documents and reports and lead activities for sustained accreditation, such as self-studies, annual accreditation status reports, strategic plans, student surveys, educational assessments, and site visits.
  13. Supports the dean in the organization and facilitation of operational program duties, including strategic planning and assessment. Completes instructional duties, reports, and paper work assigned by the dean in a timely manner.
  14. Collaborates with the dean and faculty to review curriculum annually, develop student centered schedules, and recommend instructional assignments while maintaining contract and accreditation requirements.
  15. Attends division, department, and committee meetings and in-service programs.
  16. Maintains and emphasizes safe working conditions and practices. Assists with regular facility inspections and record maintenance in compliance with OSHA mandates.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in Dental HygieneOR Associate's in Dental Hygiene from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and a master's degree or ability to obtain a master's degree by July 1, 2027
Experience/Training:

  • Minimum (3) years' experience providing patient care in private/corporate practice
  • Current Oregon or Washington Dental Hygiene License (current)
  • Oregon Nitrous Oxide Permit or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
  • Current CPR Certification (BLS for Healthcare Provider) prior to date of hire
  • Current immunizations prior to date of hire
Desired Qualifications
  • Teaching experience, preferably at the community college level
  • Oregon Expanded Practice Permit
  • Current Member of American Dental Hygienists' Association
  • Oregon or Washington Restorative Endorsement
  • Experience with CODA documentation
Additional Qualifications and/or Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to stand on hard floor for several hours at a time
  • Ability to speak clearly and project voice to a standard classroom for two or more hours
  • Ability to see and read fine print and small calibrated instruments such as a periodontal probe
  • Ability to sit at dental chair for student instruction in labs and clinics
  • Ability to think critically and problem-solve during clinical patient care
  • Ability to maintain calm instructional atmosphere with new students
  • Ability to focus on tasks despite numerous daily interruptions to routine
  • Knowledge of instructional technology, software, and hardware
  • Knowledge of grant writing, funding sources, and development
  • Knowledge of recent professional literature in area of expertise
  • Skills in time prioritization, meeting organization, written and oral communication
Working Conditions and Important Information

Working Conditions
Work is typically in labs, clinics, or indoor classroom settings. Labs and clinics potentially involve the use of some hazardous wastes which require the use of standard precautions including proper PPE at all times, as well as observing all state and federal OSHA rules. SALARY
Salary placement will be based on applicable education and/or years of relevant full-time equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement. Please include all relevant education and full and part-time experience in your application that you want the College to review towards potential placement. Hired employees will not have an opportunity to update past education and/or experience or appeal initial placement after the time of hire.
