Job description

SUMMARY
Will teach the Power Line Worker curriculum; develop curriculum, schedule, lab and equipment maintenance training. Will order training supplies and equipment, assist in student advising, counseling, recruitment and placement, and observe occupational health and safety requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other relevant duties may be required.
Hold effective safety meetings regularly; stay abreast of HCC safety policies, and impart knowledge to co-workers and students to ensure they are consistently applied.
Complete safety, environmental, and quality training site inspections; support and emphasize the importance of safety and environmental programs, and ensure regulatory compliance.
Maintain data and accuracy of training manual, computerized work and student management records.
Inventory and maintain records of training materials and equipment to ensure resources are used in a cost-effective manner.
Develop and present oral and written presentations; lead meetings and training sessions as required.
Develop and maintain good working relations with management, co-workers, students and other HCC work groups to ensure collaboration within groups.
Model and maintain quality customer service attitude and propagate amongst co-workers.
Follow HCC workplace/attendance policies and procedures; lead by example.
Develop, monitor and update training schedules and records continuously to ensure accuracy.
Oversee daily training operation activities, address and resolve training issues /concerns and provide direction/resolution as needed.
Manage, evaluate and guide student performance; administer constructive discipline.
Validate training programs/activities, evaluate student training needs, and propose training schedule.
Evaluate, revise and update curriculum and materials as needed to ensure conformity with industry and HCC standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities list above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or GED and completion of a Journeyman Lineman Apprenticeship are required.
Associate Degree and a NCCER instructor certification for Power Line Worker are preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Eight (8) years Power Line Worker/lineman experience is required; must have worked as a Journeyman for at least three (3) of these years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have valid Texas driver's license with good driving record
Able to speak, read and write in English and perform basic mathematics (add, subtract, multiply, divide) sufficiently to read, interpret and communicate information regarding prints, maps, work orders, technical material, time work management, budget, etc.
Able to operate equipment (i.e., radio, phone, fax, copier, computer)
Knowledgeable of the instructional systems design model
Able to organize, facilitate and conduct presentations and meetings
Able to communicate effectively and courteously with vendors regarding training materials and related products
Able to work under minimal supervision and make sound business decisions
Knowledgeable of applicable regulations which apply to Power Line work (OSHA, NFPA 70E, NESC, etc.)
Able to recognize potential dangers associated with work around high-voltage electricity and construction equipment.
Able and willing to perform the following tasks: climb and perform work on utility structures up to 95' in height, connect transformers, metering installation (both single and three-phase), hot sticking, underground installation, trouble-shooting and switching
Able and willing to withstand exposure to severe conditions during field training operations: weather, dust, heavy pollen, vegetation, insects, wildlife and/or emergency situations
Able to lift and carry 50 pounds in the work environment and carry it 50 yards without assistance
