Title: Instructional Coach, Special Education K-12
Reports To: Director of Student Services
Employee Type: Full-Time, School Year Only, Salaried, Exempt
Summary
To provide leadership for the evaluation, identification, and the education of students with disabilities. Instructional Coach is responsible for implementing Special Education mandates, providing direction for department responsibilities, and providing fiscally responsible curriculum and instructional leadership. Provide guidance and professional development for teachers, staff, and administration to build capacity and understanding of Special Education instructional practices. Responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, observing, and providing feedback to teachers.
Job Responsibilities

  • Assists with development, implementation, and monitoring of Special Education paperwork.
  • Assists with providing education and training, resources, and direction for the implementation of state, federal, and local mandates, regulations, policies, procedures, and laws, and ensures procedural safeguard rights.
  • Facilitates the process of transfer IEPs and ensuring that they are completed in a timely manner.
  • Acts as a resource to teachers to facilitate adaptations and modifications to the curriculum, in development and implementation, according to each student's IEP. This includes acting as a resource in the development of specially designed instruction, assisting teachers in creating lessons, writing legally-defensible IEP's, and identifying and/or creating assessment tools for on-going progress monitoring.
  • Supports teachers in completing Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Positive Behavioral Support Plans (PBSP) as appropriate.
  • Works collaboratively with coordinators, curriculum supervisors and other Student Services personnel.
  • Ability to provide building wide support to professionals and paraprofessionals
  • Support teachers in assessment procedures including modeling assessing, evaluating individual students, and developing assessment schedules and materials for classroom teachers to utilize
  • Prepare data (academic or behavioral) and supporting documentation including goals and/or SDIs for teachers to utilize within student IEPs
  • Provide training and consultation to paraprofessionals and model strategies for effective collaboration and communication between paraprofessionals and professionals
  • Provide consultations to the individual student, classroom or school-wide level including training and staff development regarding assessment and/or best practices in behavior strategies
  • Support teachers in the development of lesson plans and support with applicable resources
  • Demonstrates effective planning, organization and teamwork.
  • Shares a commitment to the success of the mission, goals, and objectives of CCS.
  • Promotes good citizenship through actions as a role model
  • Conducts himself or herself according to professional, ethical principles that reflect favorably upon the individual and the school
  • Maintains highest level of confidentiality pertaining to school and students' information, progress, and records
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Student Services.
  • Abides by the CCS Employee Manual, CCS policies and procedures, and all current PA Public School expectations

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years Special Education teaching; preferred experience in a variety of grade levels.
  • Bachelor Degree in education required; PA Department of Education certification in Special Education required.
  • Mastery in areas of IEP development, goal writing, IEP compliance, and progress monitoring techniques
  • Ability to provide coaching and leadership to other professionals and members of IEP teams.
  • Knowledge of PA Department of Education Learning Standards and Charter School Law as it relates to Special Education.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues
  • Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise
  • Knowledge and skills to implement a standards-based education system and understanding of the PA Assessment Anchors
  • Interpersonal problem-solving and organizational skills required to effectively facilitate coaching and staff professional development
  • Proven ability to analyze and apply student-level data to guide instructional decisions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient with the use of computer programs, including Google Suite.
  • Required Clearances include Criminal Background Clearance (Act 34), Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151), and FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114), all dated within one year of receipt
  • Meets criteria for employment in a PA Public School
  • Clearance as an MA provider by the Commonwealth of PA and federal government (conducted by CCS upon hire).
