Summary of Duties:

The INEF Communication Coordinator is a member of the WSU Tri-Cities Office of Marketing and Communication, an in-house strategic and creative team that proactively brings the universities’ stories to a broad variety of audiences in support of WSU Tri-Cities’ mission.


This role primarily supports the Institute for Northwest Energy Futures (INEF) annual marketing and communications plan. Working with the INEF team on the Tri-Cities campus and INEF colleagues throughout the WSU System, the INEF Communication Coordinator works to promote INEF activities and initiatives to a wide variety of audiences through press releases, one-pagers and informational handouts, social media posts, and more.


When not actively engaged in INEF work, the INEF Communications Coordinator will assist the WSU Tri-Cities Office of Marketing and Communication to promote the mission of WSU Tri-Cities.

Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing or other relevant field AND either two (2) years of professional experience in print OR broadcast news media, public relations, marketing including the use of electronic media OR two (2) years of other relevant professional experience.

  • Experience creating social media content.

  • Experience working with members of the media.

  • Knowledge of AP Style, with an ability to follow editorial standards and apply university brand messaging.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively with people of varying levels of responsibility and experience, both orally and in writing.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Outlook PowerPoint, Excel and Teams.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience developing communications for the Energy sector or similar audiences.

  • Proven ability to write interesting, accessible copy about complex topics for both nontechnical and scientific-interested audiences.

  • Prior experience with photography and/or videography.

  • Ability to design flyers, brochures, graphics etc. using Adobe products (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop etc.)

  • Understanding of SEO best practices.

Monthly Salary:

This position is based on WSU Grade 4 (Zone 3), which has a minimum monthly salary of $4,386.85 and maximum monthly salary of $6,580.27. The expected hiring range for this position is $4,386.85 - $4,916.67 per month.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
