Job Description
Wastewater Duties:
- Operate, monitor and oversee a variety of equipment to treat or remove wastes or contaminants such as cyanides, acids, alkalis, volatile organic compounds from the facility’s process wastewater streams
- Monitor operation of instrumentation and recorders during treatment to measure, control, record pH, temperature and flow of effluent
- Implement immediate corrective measures where recorder and/or alarm system signals a potential failure
- Take required quarterly wastewater samples to ensure compliance with the local sewer authority guidelines
- Maintain cleanliness of the inside and outside wastewater treatment areas
- Take emergency action to clear chemical lines and piping, services valves and pumps, proportions feeders and mixers
- Calibrate and maintain pH and ORP chemical controllers and electrodes and flow and control equipment
- Determine and prepare appropriate ratios of chemical mixes for treatments
- Help drive the continuous improvement efforts in the wastewater treatment plant
- Perform assigned tasks under minimum supervision while applying specialized training in wastewater treatment technology
- Perform daily, weekly and monthly EHS inspections to maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, MassDEP, NFPA, etc. These include but are not limited to: portable fire extinguishers, emergency spill kits, emergency eyewash/showers/, oil spill prevention control (SPCC), Hazardous Waste satellite and main accumulation areas.
- Work closely with all departments to ensure compliance with all federal and local Hazardous Waste regulations.
- Participate as member of the hazardous material (chemical, hazardous waste, blood or blood contaminated body- fluids, etc.), spill response/cleanup unit to remove spills from the work area
- Perform general maintenance and housekeeping of workplace, tools and equipment
- Coordinate all Hazardous Waste shipments through a third-party contractor to ensure all wastes are shipped off-site for disposal within the required 90-day timeframe
- Share responsibility to sign hazardous waste manifests
- Assist in maintaining and enforcing the control measures for the chemical storage area by dispensing and delivering requested quantities to each department
We work 4 days/ 10-hour shifts Monday - Thursday
Requirements:
- Must possess a Massachusetts Class 4-I Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator’s license
- Minimum 5 yrs. of experience in an industrial setting, preferably a manufacturing environment
- Valid Driver's License
- Must be willing to complete and maintain RCRA/HazWoper/DOT certifications upon first 6 months of employment
- Must be able to respond to after-hours emergencies
- Must be able to read instructions, charts, manuals, and flow diagrams
- Must be familiar with and be able to operate machines, tools, and equipment including but not limited to: Mixers, waste transfer pumps, holding tanks, filters, power and control panels, recorders, feeders, proportioning pumps, chemicals and slurries, chemical testing equipment such as pH meters, settling agents, beakers, titration apparatus, material handling equipment, chemical and sludge waste barrels, clarifiers, polymer feed modules, filter press, pH/ORP control equipment, pumps, level/flow controls, gauges, sensors, respirators, safety equipment, and hand tools
- Must be able frequently lift up to 50-75 lbs. and transport full 55- gallon drums via manually operated drum dolly equipment
- Must be able to wear all job related PPE with no restrictions
