Summary of Position:
Works to maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area and enforces safe work practices amongst employees. Maintains A/C and D/C motor control equipment along with installing conduit and wiring in a skilled and professional manner. Keeps up to date on all ladder logic and instrumentation diagrams while maintaining and understanding process control loops. Maintains and troubleshoots combustion equipment and installs PLC and computer-based control systems.
Responsibilities
  • Use safe work practices and counsel other employees to do the same, as necessary
    • This includes understanding and complying with the lock-out/tag-out procedures, remaining current on plant and safety matters and participating regularly in department/plant safety meetings
  • Install conduit, wring and equipment with craftsmanship in a skilled and professional manner
  • Read and interpret electrical power distribution, control, ladder logic, piping and instrumentation diagrams
  • Install, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot A/C and D/C motor control equipment
  • Help maintain an organized storeroom area for spare parts
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair 3-phase 460V power distribution systems, 120VAC control systems, and low voltage DC control systems
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot PLC and computer-based control systems. Use computer skills and computer-related equipment to diagnose problems with production equipment
  • Maintain and troubleshoot combustion equipment including gas trains, automatic control valves, and other gas-fired equipment
  • Understand, maintain, and repair process control loops
  • Determine if production equipment needs to be repaired or services; coordinate machine downtime and repairs with production management
  • Prioritize work when more than one issue needs addressed at a time
  • Take an active role in the requisitioning of parts/materials necessary for the continued operation of the plant
  • Perform preventative maintenance routines as scheduled and as needed
  • Know all safety warning signs and signals and take corrective action
  • Communicate maintenance issues with other shifts to ensure continuity of operation
  • Read and record comments in both Maintenance and Production logbooks
  • Ensure housekeeping in the Maintenance Department is maintained to a safe level and that equipment, tools, supplies, etc. are properly stored at all times, as well as before leaving such area for breaks, meal times, and end of the shift
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
  • Must be able to report to work on time and work all hours required of the job, including mandatory overtime; may be required to occasionally cover shifts other than the one for which hired
  • Perform other work related duties and projects as directed

Qualifications
Education:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience:
  • Minimum of five (5) years electrical experience working in a heavy industrial environment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficient in various aspects of troubleshooting and machine repair
  • Knowledge of proper and safe use of shop equipment and tools
  • Knowledge of VFDs, A/C and D/C motor controls, and combustions systems
  • Knowledge of NEC code book
  • Ability to read and interpret ladder logic control schemes
  • Ability to install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair 480V, 3-phase power distribution systems, PLC's, VFDs, A/C and D/C motor controls, and combustion systems
  • Ability to observe safety and security procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly
  • Ability to perform basic math functions, including mental calculation of simple equations and/or fractions
  • Ability to apply basic reading and writing skills
