Description
The Kansas City Public Library is looking for an ILS System Administrator. The ILS System Administrator works inside the Information Systems team, providing the Library and its external partners with knowledgeable advice and support with its ILS database applications. The staff person reports to the Director of Information Systems and works closely with the director-level and manager-level leadership throughout the Library and with the Library's external service partners. The Library's next ILS Administrator will be a self-driven, inquisitive, public servant passionate about database structures and library service. The successful candidate will acknowledge and know the fundamental importance of managing user experience and expectations in maintaining a healthy database and will work toward constant enhancement of an essential library service that meets the needs of library staff and our public.
This is an exempt, full-time permanent position with On Call responsibilities and must be able to travel to service sites. The position offices at the Library's Administrative Annex, adjacent to the Downtown Library at 14 W 10th Street, with a salary range starting at $75,000, depending on experience, plus excellent benefits. Essential Duties:

• Manages administration and configuration of the Library's Integrated Library System (ILS), including database administration, testing, online catalog, circulation, acquisitions, cataloging, serials management, and statistical data logging.
• Manages connectors and data mapping for ILS-dependent third-party services like OrangeBoy Savannah, Patron Proxy Server access, MyPC PC reservations, Automated-Machine Handling Systems, Self-Checkout Systems, and other ILS-dependent services.
• Ensures the Library's internal ILS behavior compliance to its circulation policies and procedures and maintains the integrity and retention schedules of the ILS data tables.
• Creates custom, sustainable solutions as well as implements vendor-provided, turnkey solutions, on time and to specification.
• Advises on ILS-related and ILS-reliant applications used by the Library and its external partners, providing background and guidance to the Director of Information Systems and internal administration and departments as needed on function, security, and good governance.

Requirements
The successful candidate will:
• Have knowledge of Oracle/SQL database structures and experience in managing and configuring them
• Demonstrates proficiency in scripting and automation
• Have a passion for public service demonstrated in their work history
• Maintain knowledge of current and emerging trends in consumer technology and internet tools
• Possess the ability to listen to a user's problem and needs and keep the user informed during the fact-finding and troubleshooting steps of the resolution process
The preferred candidate will:
• Have experience with library ILS databases, specifically SirsiDynix Symphony.
• Has experience scripting in PERL and working at the command line with Unix commands,
• Have worked in a public library in a public service or technology/IT capacity.
• Maintain knowledge of current and emerging trends and technologies in the public library space.
• Ability to translate technology terms to library staff and end users with varying levels of technology skills as well as interpret the needs and priorities of the Library to IT staff and IT vendors.
Education:
Masters in Library Science or equivalent preferred plus 3 years of related library experience preferred. A Bachelor of Library and Information Science or equivalent or a Bachelor of Science in either IT or Database Management with 7 years of related Library experience preferred. Candidates with 12 or more years of related public library experience in lieu of education will be considered.
Skills:
• Command line scripting and automation tool experience
• Data-flow mapping and troubleshooting and data taxonomy creation
• Process documentation creation
• Basic computer hardware troubleshooting
• Vendor management
• Communicates clearly for knowledge conveyance and efficiency
• Organizational awareness and ability to be a catalyst for organizational change
• Microsoft Office Suite, with preferred expertise in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Vizio
• Familiarity with the MARC formats for Bibliographic and Authority records
• Knowledge of modern professional library principles, practices, and procedures, including the principles of resource sharing and management
• Ability to analyze technical and administrative library problems, identify the root cause, the possible solutions, and implement ILS-related/dependent solutions
• Ability to self-assess their own approach to solutions, reality-checking it against current cultural practices, and adjusting their approach as needed or becoming a change agent where needed
