Job Summary


The Office of the Minnesota Attorney General is currently seeking a Human Resources (HR) Generalist to provide professional HR services to our staff and organization. Our HR Generalists support all HR functions throughout the cycle of employment to include position auditing, recruitment, hiring, onboarding, transactions, labor relations, leave coordination, policy, workers compensation, performance management, and offboarding. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team dedicated to the mission of the Office.

A successful candidate in this position will be able to support the mission of the Office by:

  • Auditing positions and preparing classification decisions so that positions are appropriately allocated;
  • Working closely with hiring managers to create and post all vacancies for successful hiring;
  • Providing thorough and welcoming onboarding for newly hired staff;
  • Processing personnel transactions accurately and timely into the state’s HRIS;
  • Developing an in-depth understanding of the applicable collective bargaining unit agreements and compensation plans to effectively advise staff and managers;
  • Providing strategic consultation to managers regarding HR matters such as performance management, discipline, and labor relations;
  • Coordinating the leave management for all types of leave of absence;
  • Evaluating policy, procedures, and processes with focus on continuous improvement and;
  • Intentionally fostering an inclusive work environment where diversity is celebrated.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two or more years of relevant Human Resources experience OR a bachelor's degree in Human Resources management (or closely related degree)
  • Experience with the state’s HRIS (SEMA4) and/or similar HRIS
  • Knowledge of and commitment to effective and respectful strategies to create and foster a diverse, equitable, accessible, and inclusive working environment
  • Outstanding skill in:
    • Interpersonal relationships and human relations to develop supportive and trusting relationships with staff at all levels
    • Organization, planning, multitasking, and attention to detail in order to ensure deadlines are met and transactions are completed both timely and accurately
  • Demonstrated ability to provide respectful coaching and counseling on HR matters
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the state’s personnel laws, rules, policies, and procedures and collective bargaining agreements and compensation plans
  • Knowledge of or experience in a law office setting
  • Experience with labor relations within a union environment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move and transport such articles as files, laptop computer and resource materials weighing up to 20 pounds
