APL is seeking a positive, adaptable professional to join our fast-paced team as aHuman Resources Generalist. In this dynamic role, you will have exposure and influence for a range of people programs, initiatives, and programs. Key accountabilities include payroll processing, benefits administration, onboarding, culture building, people analytics, corporate communications, and delivering an amazing employee experience to our Team Members. The HR Generalist will partner with other Human Resources team members to continuously improve people capabilities, work performance, workforce engagement, workplace culture, and advance APL’s strategic initiatives. This position will be based at our manufacturing/distribution headquarters in Burnsville, Minnesota and will operate in a hybrid work setting.
In this role the incumbent will:
- Complete payroll administration activities using ADP Workforce Now
- Day-to-day benefits administration including maintaining EDI files, facilitate new hire benefits orientation, and complete benefits compliance activities
- Own overall responsibility for team member data integrity in our HRIS
- Provide first tier support to Team Members on wide range of people needs
- Be a key contributor to our internal committees including Wellbeing and Safety
- Be integral to APL’s communication approach including authoring information shared with our team and the community on our digital boards, social media, and company newsletter
- Support talent acquisition efforts including owning several onboarding activities
- Accountable for select month-end, quarter-end, and annual reports
- Perform special projects to support a variety of HR and business initiatives which may include but is not limited to DEI, employee development, community giveback, and governance.
- Become cross-trained and serve as backup support to other Human Resources team members.
We seek applicants with these critical skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, or Business Management or equivalent experience
- Early HR career pros encouraged to apply as we seek a minimum 2 years of experience in progressing Human Resources and/or administrative capacity (i.e. HR Assistant, HR Coordinator), preferably in manufacturing or distribution business environment
- Reliable, approachable, welcoming, self-starter who can work independently managing multiple tasks in tandem with frequent interruptions
- Strength in flawless execution, as detail orientation is key
- Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tack, and diplomacy
- Open communicator, excellent communication skills (oral, written, and listening)
- Must tirelessly uphold and promote the positive image of the APL’s brand
- Demonstrable strong technical proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite as well as familiarity with HRIS systems and benefits systems portals
- Must have strong ability to collaborate, build, and maintain strong relationships with Team Members across all functions.
- Strong working knowledge of state (MN) and federal reporting regulations affecting human resource functions to ensure policies, procedures, programs, and reporting comply
- Ability to work with a diverse team
- Verified experience operating in a fast-paced business experience with demonstrated effectiveness in a small company/location

- Prior experience with ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred
- PHR or SHRM-CP certified; we will help you earn it if you don’t have it!
