(Part-Time – Non-Exempt – Hybrid Position)

About East Bay Center for the Performing Arts
East Bay Center for the Performing Arts (the “Center”) was founded in Richmond, California immediately after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968 as a response to the unrest, anger, frustration, and need for change. Today, our foundational values remain rooted in civil rights, equity, and justice.
The Center has a deep history of serving Richmond children and youth with music, theater and dance training, new artistic work, and community gatherings that are reflective of the richness and diversity of the local population. Last year, the Center served approximately 3,500 youth in 17 schools and 300 students at our main site through private lessons and tuition-free group classes. The Center’s staff consists of 25 administrative staff and approximately 70 – 75 faculty. They are passionate and committed to the values and established goals, and they have a deep understanding of the cultural assets that are present in the community.
About the Position
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Human Resources Assistant. As a Human Resources Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the HR department and ensuring the smooth operation of various HR functions. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain valuable experience in the field of Human Resources.
Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Assistant provides a wide variety of confidential, administrative and technical support to the Human Resources Department, involving recruitment, compensation, benefits, onboarding, personnel records, employee relations and other duties as assigned.
The incumbent will collaborate with the Finance department to verify the accuracy of employee data when initiating and setting up new employee documents in Paycom and personnel records.

Personnel/Employee Relations
Assist with the administration of HR programs and processes, including but not limited to employee onboarding, off boarding, and performance management. In coordination with the HR Director, post open positions on selected job boards, assist new employees with onboarding utilizing the Paycom HRIS, uploading new hire documents: applications, offer letters, job descriptions, I-9 documents; ensuring that all documents are received and processed promptly and correctly; communicating with new employees regarding required onboarding documents and coordinating with Finance staff for verification as needed. Maintain employee records and ensure data accuracy in HR systems. Verify accuracy of all Paycom entries by comparing entries with source documents as necessary.
Set up and maintain appropriate files for each recruitment, new employees and other confidential human resource-related files according to established policies and procedures.
Communicate with candidates, new hires and other employees regarding a myriad of human resource matters.
Employee Relations Activities
Assist applicants and employees by responding to general questions regarding EBCPA policies and procedures. Assists the HR Director in monitoring and ensuring that required federal and state training is completed by employees; i.e., harassment, safety (OSHA) and other training as assigned. Assist with the development and implementation of HR policies, procedures, and initiatives.
Coordinate and schedule interviews, meetings and trainings. Respond to questions and inquiries from internal and external staff and customers regarding current employment opportunities and activities.
May review resumes and applications for completeness and forward resumes to the Human Resources Director for screening.
Utilizes word processing software to prepare reports, charts and correspondence generated by the Human Resources Director.
Processes Employee Status Change Forms and ensures that data entered by Payroll is accurate.
Coordinate and schedule interviews as needed.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
● Strong knowledge of HR processes and best practices; ● Knowledge of employment laws and regulations including FMLA is preferred;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
● Strong attention to detail and documenting projects, activities and outcomes;
● Ability to perform arithmetic computations (e.g., addition, subtraction,
multiplication, division, percentages, fractions, etc.
● Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities;
● Ability to meet internal and external deadlines;
● Use tact and diplomacy with individuals from diverse backgrounds;
● Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Google workspace applications, and Zoom web conferencing;
● Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism;
● Ability to work independently;
● Strong organizational skills;
● Ability to work in a team environment, and with a diverse population;
● Establish and maintain effective working relationships .
Education and Training
● High school diploma, GED or equivalent;
● Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Human Resources in a similar or equivalent role
is required;
- Bachelors degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
Other Requirements
● Must successfully pass a comprehensive Criminal Background Check
● Must be able to provide valid I-9 documents to determine proof of eligibility to work
in the United States.
