Job description

Summary/Objective:

Under general supervision, provides analysis, research and technical expertise in the areas of absence management (FMLA and other leave of absences) and ADA.  Assists with projects that have a significant impact to the agency and development of policies and processes in the areas of assignment.

Essential Functions

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Reviews, interprets and responds to employee's requests for Family and Medical Leave and other leave of absences.

  • Acts as agency SME in the areas of FMLA and ADA.

  • Administers all other functions in areas of assignment.

  • Collects and analyzes data in areas of assignment.

  • Tracks trends and developments in assigned functional areas.

  • Conducts studies, performs research and prepares reports.

  • Reviews, interprets and recommends policy, process or program improvements.

  • Participates in working groups, councils and committees.

  • Ensures organizational compliance with federal and state laws, rules and regulations.

  • Manages special projects.

  • Trains employees on topics within areas of assignment.

  • Fields and answers employee inquiries regarding the ADA.

  • Ensures the timely filing of all required compliance reports.

  • Develops and implements internal measures and/or reports which inform the Agency of the status of ADA compliance and opportunities for people with disabilities.

  • Maintains current information regarding state and federal laws and regulations as well as the best practices concerning the rights of persons with disabilities and ways of providing accommodations to persons with disabilities while maintaining program performance standards.

PLEASE NOTE: This position may be filled at the lower-level HR Specialist 1 contingent upon the candidates' qualifications.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  1. Two (2) or more years of experience reviewing, interpreting, and responding to employee's request for Family and Medical Leave and other leave of absences, preferably with a local, state or federal government employer. 

  2. Two (2) or more years of experience handling complex ADA issues preferably with a local, state, or federal government employer.

  3. Two (2) or more years of experience reviewing and researching policies, Board rules, statutes, state and federal laws and regulations.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions:

Incumbents working in this job perform duties in an office setting. This is a 40-hour workweek requirement. The position may involve managing a high-volume workload and demands a high level of accuracy while working with deadlines. Regular attendance is an important part of being successful in this position. Reasonable accommodations can be made available to qualified individuals upon request.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position occasionally requires long hours and weekend work.

Travel:

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

As a condition of employment with Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, you must successfully complete a mandatory federal and national background check, pre-employment testing, and additional checks required for your job.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND Two years of related experience in human resources OR One year of experience required at the lower level HR Spec 1 (HRP020) or position equivalent. Note: An equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis.
