What You’ll Do
We’re thrilled to welcome our first HR Generalist onto our growing team! As an HR Generalist at Topa Topa, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our brewery operations and taprooms by managing various HR functions.
Committed to creating a positive work environment where people can grow, you will act as the administrative and support function for employees through the full employee life cycle: recruiting, hiring, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, development, and offboarding. With excellent working knowledge of current best practices in the HR field, you will also be a resource to employees and management with questions or concerns regarding company policies, practices and regulations.
In this role, you will process, verify and maintain documentation relating to all HR activities such as hiring, training and performance evaluations. Finally, the Generalist will support with the development and execution of company wide events and culture initiatives.
This person will work out of our office in Ventura.
Responsibilities:
- Compliance: Stay up-to-date with state and federal labor and employment laws; Develop and implement applicable policies and procedures to reduce HR compliance risk; Provide support in the interpretation and implementation of Topa’s HR policies and guidelines; Manage Topa’s employment records to ensure all data is complete and accurate.
- Payroll & Benefits Admin: Assist in processing bi-weekly payroll; Update employee files including tracking paid time off and sick leave, benefit changes and expense reimbursements; Support Executive Team in the management and development of benefit programs including 401k, open enrollment, wellness and volunteer programs, etc.
- Hiring & Onboarding: Facilitate Topa’s hiring process from start to finish including: fielding initial job requisitions, recruiting top talent, shortlisting and interviewing candidates, and making official offers; Manage the collection and documentation of new hire paperwork; Facilitate the onboarding process for new hires.
- Employee Development & Performance: Provide performance management process guidance and feedback: Support leaders in facilitating successful performance reviews; Manage performance review cycles; Assist with company training and education programs.
- Employee Relations & Offboarding: Facilitate the offboarding process; Conduct exit interviews; Field employee complaints, suggestions and questions; Conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations for any serious employee relations issues that may arise.
- Employee Engagement and Culture: Plan and execute employee engagement initiatives, such as team-building activities, social events, company store, and recognition programs; Promote a positive and inclusive work culture that aligns with the brewery's values and vision; Implement employee feedback mechanisms and utilize data to drive continuous improvement.

Experience You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as an HR Generalist, preferably in the food and beverage industry.
- Solid understanding of HR principles, practices, and employment laws.
- Demonstrated experience in recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and training and development.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships, effectively resolve conflicts, and a commitment to confidentiality.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.
- Knowledge of HRIS systems.
Bonus Points If You Have…
- Experience in the food and beverage industry.
- Professional certification in HR (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP).
