- Advise and guide employees in effective performance and resolve work-related issues.
- Review and evaluate structural damages from accidents.
- Coordinate activities with other crews, agencies, contractors and news media to ensure safety.
- Ensure the crew has the necessary resources to accomplish their work.
- Ensure proper maintenance of equipment.
- Review the crew’s work and provide input to the transportation maintenance manager (TMM).
- Assist the TMM by preparing, reviewing and/or signing documents.
- Provide new employee orientation and training.
- Assist with writing and evaluating contracts.
- Exposure to noise, extreme heights, adverse weather, heavy equipment, pesticides and hazardous waste materials is expected.
- Must be able to move around rough terrain, on uneven slopes and may need to lift up to 100 pounds.
- May need to be available after hours, on weekends and holidays for emergency, on call and weather related purposes.

- Employee will be required to use a commercial motor vehicle to conduct business. You must possess a current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A) with a tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions, no 5th wheel restrictions and no manual transmission restrictions, OR have the ability to acquire a class A commercial learner permit within 60 days of hire and a CDL-A with a tanker endorsement and restrictions removed within 6 months of hire (ODOT will cover training costs) to be considered eligible for this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse registration and full query check for our final candidate(s) and annual query for current employees.
- This position requires a maximum 30 minute response time to 3014 Island Ave, La Grande, OR 97850 for emergency call-outs.
- Leadership experience with the ability to motivate others to accomplish a common goal, gives appraisals when appropriate and lead by example.
- Experience working cooperatively in a team environment with the ability to work within your team but also collaborate with other teams to accomplish larger goals.
- Experience using hand tools, chainsaws and heavy equipment such as tractors, excavators, loaders or dump trucks.
- Experience reading and comprehending policies and procedures and applying them to your work.
