Job Description:
General Objectives:
Reporting to the Safety, Health and Security Manager, the Safety and Health Specialist is responsible to provide occupational safety and health guidance, training and support to the departments and personnel at the Marigold Mine, with an emphasis on contractor management and training functions for the site. The Safety and Health Specialist will typically work four consecutive ten-hour day shifts which may include occasional weekends, holidays, night shifts, and on-call responsibilities.
Key Areas of Responsibilities & Duties:
The key responsibilities of the Safety and Health Specialist include, but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for personal compliance with safety and environmental policies and procedures for all personnel and vendors.
- Attend site-wide departmental safety meetings providing employees with updates of company health and safety activities.
- Assist management staff with all contractor health and safety compliance and regulatory needs.
- Oversee major training functions, quality, instruction, documentation, and tracking for the site.
- Instruct MSHA Safety and Health Training.
- Be a safety and health leader.
- Participate in regulatory compliance inspections.
- Lead/participate in safety and health audits and inspections.
- Participate in the Marigold Emergency Response Program.
- Facilitate safety and health risk assessments.
- Facilitate incident investigations.
- Provide written reports when required.
- Must be available for call out when needed.
- Any other job duties that may be required.
Required Skills:
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project)
- Presentation and public speaking, including large groups.
- Ability to build trust and develop great working relationships with site personnel and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to provide strong leadership and act as an effective change agent.
- Ability to interact with all departments or groups as needed, for problem resolution.
Required Experience:
- 2 years of surface mining experience, preferred experience as a full-time mine safety and health professional.
- A degree in safety, health, or some related field (preferred)
- Certified MSHA instructor IS designation (preferred)
- In-depth experience with MSHA regulatory requirements.
- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), CPR/First Aid Instructor (preferred)
