JOB PURPOSE:
Safety & health position that works as part of a team, under supervision, to develop, implement and monitor safety and health programs for near-mine or in-mine facilities in compliance with company and regulatory requirements. Performs activities essential to ensuring employees can do their work safety to prevent injuries or health impairment. Advocates for safety and health compliance, providing training, compliance monitoring, auditing, and reporting. Performs more routine tasks or work on a minor phase, with oversite, of a larger project.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary responsibilities and tasks:
- Act as a technical advisor and mentor to the site management team while working with Senior S&H professionals to develop and implement strategies to control immediate risks in the workplace and find solutions to complex S&H problems.
- Participate in internal S&H inspections and audits to identify conditions, behaviors, corrective action implementation/compliance, and/or training related corrective actions and needs.
- Work with all employees and staff to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and company S&H standards and systems.
- Accompany division management along with MSHA and State inspectors during inspections.
- Assist with health testing and industrial hygiene activities as needed.
- Serve as a resource or facilitator for incident investigations; ICAM or 5 Why analysis to ensure that all incidents are accurately investigated to determine root cause. Assist with development of meaningful and effective correction actions to prevent recurrence of safety incidents or industrial hygiene exposures.
- Ensure effectiveness reviews are conducted on corrective actions with participation of management and hourly personnel in the area or division.
- Assist with accurate reporting of all incidents into approved system and development of flash, summary, senior leadership review reports as required.
- Maintain accurate documentation and data entry in databases.
- Support and/or facilitate Formal Risk Assessments by developing and monitoring action plans.
- Maintain and sustain active involvement with division safety team, committees.
- Provide mentorship and support to all employees.
- Actively participate in toolbox meetings, safety meetings, and other training sessions.
- Develop and instruct MSHA topics during New Hire Orientation, Annual Refresher Training, and Business partner Hazard Training and Introduction to Work Environment.
- Conduct Drug and Alcohol Testing.
- On-call responsibilities are required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- 0 years’ experience + Degree and/or
- 3 years’ experience in mining or related industry with proven/demonstrated Leadership in Safety
- Incident Investigation experience and certification
Experience
- Familiarity with MSHA health and safety regulations and standards
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate health and safety related risks
- Ability to train and coach others on issues relating to health and safety
- Practical application of Microsoft Office Suite of software (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook)
- Preferred Blue Card Holder and/or training experience
- Fundamental understanding in Occupational Health
