Position Description
DEFINITION:
The Health and Human Services Academic Success Navigator works closely with the Program Directors, Student Services, and the Dean of Health and Human Services to coordinate efforts toward student retention and success in the Health and Human Services programs.
***This is a Time Limited, Temporary Full Time Grant Funded Position. Position ends December 2026 with potential to be extended***

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
  • Provide primary intervention to health science and nursing students encountering academic difficulty
  • Work with team members to assess and improve student retention by developing programs that enhance student success and persistence
  • Improve graduation rates in Health and Human Services programs
  • Communicate and collaborate with program directors, faculty, areas within the Health and Human Services and beyond to coordinate student success efforts and ensure desired outcomes are met
  • Identify areas of advising concerns and barriers that impact student success and persistence and propose solutions for resolving issues/removing barriers
  • Engage in advising and coaching follow-up activities to encourage student persistence and completion
  • Participate at program orientations
  • Assist health science and nursing students who may need testing and other accommodations by serving as a liaison with Student Accessibility Services
  • Provide Health and Human service students with information about campus/community resources and college success strategies; maintain and update a log of resources
  • Provide an intervention strategy to students who consider leaving the college
  • Participate in college committees and task forces related to academic advising, web-registration, etc. and work closely with faculty and academic affairs to develop student-centered processes
  • Assist with the development of goals, objectives, and learning outcomes for the division of Health and Human Services in support of the college's strategic plan
  • Serve as liaison with other colleges and represent the college in various contexts on matters related to retention and achievement
  • Oversee the SEEDS Scholars program at CFCC in collaboration with University of North Carolina - Wilmington College of Health and Human Services (UNCW CHHS), University of North Carolina School of Medicine (UNC SOM), and Southeastern Area Health Education Center (SEAHEC)

Other Important Functions:
  • Develop and distribute reports of enrollment, year-over-year retention, progress toward degree completion, and graduation distribution and maintain historical reports for trend analysis and benchmarking
  • Develop and implement retention programs, initiatives, and targeted communications to improve student enrollment and retention outcomes
  • Collaborate with other team members of the Health Sciences Enrollment Center for student success
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required and assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
  • Student enrollment management and student services; emphasis on Student Success
  • Broad Understanding of the majors and degrees within the Health and Human Services Division
  • Databases and spreadsheets

  • EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
    Required Minimum Education/Training:
    • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution related to student services, health education, higher education or related field

    Required Minimum Experience:
    • One year experience working with students in a college or university setting in a Student Services capacity related to student advising, counseling, or a student support role.

    Preferred Education and Experience:
    • Experience working with students enrolled in Health and Human Services Programs
    • Three years in enrollment management, student services, higher education, or related field
