Our Grower Relations Rep. 2 is responsible for locating and sourcing Central Coast grapes for wine programs by building/maintaining relationships with growers and monitoring all aspects of grape production. Advises growers on production methods, ensures quality control.

What You Will Do:        

  • Functions as a liaison between winery and growers, educating/advising them on market conditions, quality standards and viticulture practices.        
  • Develops and maintains vineyard records on cultural practices, yields and grape quality.
  • Monitors all aspects of crop development and forecasts crop tonnages.
  • Schedules the delivery of grapes from the field to winery.
  • Negotiates most grower contract terms.
  • With guidance, initiates, implements and manages short and long term projects.
  • Provides cost savings and avoidance input for project requests.
  • Participates in pricing strategy.
  • Ensures application of policies and procedures; makes recommendations for change, and implements approved changes.
  • Supports the establishing and controlling of budgets.
  • Oversees the performance of growers and monitors their application of procedure; reports issues to Senior Grower Relations Rep or Grower Relations Area Manager.
  • Supports the training and development of new Grower Relations Reps.
  • Must maintain satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Mentors other Grower Relations Reps and assistants.

What You Will Need: 

  • Master’s degree in AG Policy, AgriBusiness, Plant science, Biology or Ag Science plus agriculture experience; OR Bachelor's degree in AG Policy, AgriBusiness, Plant science, Biology, Enology, Viticulture or Ag Science plus 2 years of agriculture or winemaking experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 6 years of agriculture or winemaking experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Candidate for this position must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
  • Required to drive to various ranch locations as part of job functions.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include color vision.
  • Required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Required to work long hours during peak season.
  • Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.
  • Required to be 18 years or older. This may be in addition to other age requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.

What Will Set You Apart: 

  • Master’s degree in AG Policy, AgriBusiness, Plant science, Biology, Enology, Viticulture or Ag Science plus 2 years of agriculture, winemaking or winery operations experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Grower Relations experience.
  • Wine grape experience.
  • Experience reading, analyzing, and interpreting general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Experience writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Experience effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Skilled in the use of MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and Grower System at a basic level; MS Word and MS Outlook at an intermediate level.
  • Skilled in applying mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, or factor analysis.
  • Skilled in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Skilled in interpreting an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Experience with performing work that is varied and may be somewhat difficult in character, usually involving limited responsibility and requiring frequent evaluation, originality or ingenuity.
  • Knowledge of and experience with applying the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of this particular field of specialization.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; be a self-starter.
  • Experience with dealing with confidential materials and situations.
  • Proficiency in recordkeeping and data gathering along with making day to day observations.
  • Experience with working on an individual basis, as well as being a team player.

Compensation:

  • Hiring Salary Range Posted: $73,700-$110,500 / year
  • Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
