This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Challenge Scholars Program Student Assistant position for the College of Engineering (CoE) at Oregon State University ( OSU).
The College of Engineering's (CoE) Grand Challenge Scholars Program is seeking a responsible, organized, and energetic student to become a part-time student intern (typically 10-15 hours per week with a maximum of 20 hours per week per OSU policy).
This position will support and assist students in the Grand Challenges Scholars Program ( GCSP by being the point person for the needs of active GCSP student members. The student intern may also be asked to support other student engagement programs if time permits.
Position Duties
40% - GCSP communication, retention, and program support including but not limited to:
  • Coordinating and assisting the Program Advisor with informational sessions (i.e. class visits, campus partner visits, etc.)
  • Tracking student GCSP progress (i.e. complement completion, required student progress materials management, etc.)
  • Student resources and maintaining a weekly email for GCSP members
20% - Communication of event via media platform for GCSP and other program staff
20% - Design promotional materials such as brochures, handbooks, fliers, newsletters, etc.
20% - Other duties as assigned by the Grand Challenge Scholars Program advisor. 
Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services ( OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • College of Engineering student
  • GCSP member demonstrating intent to complete program
  • Communication skills and the ability to communicate in a professional, positive, and friendly manner
  • Responsible, punctual, and flexible
  • Availability to work 10 hours per week minimum and 20 maximum with the availability each academic term
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word Organizational and time management skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Self-directed on projects and long-term tasks
  • Ability to Multi-task
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to represent the College of Engineering with maturity and professionalism
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
