King County's Finance and Business Operations Division, Director's Office, is seeking a Graduate Intern!
The Director's Office is a small yet mighty team that helps keep the division running smoothly. From Equity and Social Justice, Lean, Human Resources, and Budget, you'll find that our team members wear many hats and work on a diverse range of programs. The Director's Office works with other divisions and departments to drive for results that make us One King County.
We are seeking a Graduate Intern who is proactive, curious, and drives for results. This opportunity will provide professional development and exposure to various aspects of public sector finance and Business Operations while in partnership with seasoned staff mentors.
Work Schedule: This position is anticipated to start in June or July and will last through the 2024-25 school, depending on the candidate's school schedule and our business needs. During summer and other school breaks the intern may work up to 40 hours per week and during school hours may be reduced based on academic needs.
Learning Objectives:
Marketing and Communications
- Update and enhance division's website to share our success stories and who we are to external and internal audiences.
- Create and update our division-wide communications using SharePoint, Constant Contact, and other publishing tools.
- Create marketing materials and marketing plan for division programs including Lean, ESJ, and Employee Engagement events, as well as aid in coordinating and advertising.
- Communicate and market success stories around our Equity and Social Justice Work, Employee Engagement, Lean Initiative, and process improvements, as well as update Director's Office Visual Board.
- Support marketing alignment with FBOD's ESJ Action Plan and King County's Strategic Plan.
- Update and curate social media library for ESJ initiative including but not limited to articles, videos, podcasts, and powerful images.
- Update online training content as needed.
- Lead team efforts through event coordination to promote and drive employee engagement.
- Support division leadership by working on cross-functional projects including legislation, policy updates, employee engagement, ESJ, Lean, and other general administrative functions as needed.
- Provide an administrative support for the division leadership as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program in public administration, business administration, communications, or other related fields;
- Are proactive learners who are curious, creative, and thoughtful about how to create and improve upon processes.
- Are flexible, professional, and can work with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Can work autonomously and on a team and are willing to pitch in to help team members wherever they can.
- Go above and beyond to ensure internal and external teams' needs are met and exceeded.
- Have an interest in and understanding of public sector and are responsible in a professional environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, writing and customer service skills;
- Intermediate level of technology proficiency using MS Office Productivity tools in your daily work;
- Ability to manage your time and adapt to changing priorities, work on multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, meet quick deadlines, and produce timely and quality work products.
Position Information:
- Work Site Details: The work associated with this position will primarily be hybrid with some in person activities as needed.
- Location Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
- Work Schedule: This position is Non-Exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and therefore is overtime eligible. Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday. Typically, our interns work full-time during the summer months and reduce to part time (10-20 hours) during the school year.
- Union Representation: This position is not represented.
