TITLE: Merchandise Manager
DEPARTMENT: Golf Activities
REPORTING TO: Head Golf Pro, Director of Golf
POSITION SUMMARY: The Merchandise Manager creates an overall positive Golf shopping experience for Members and guests while providing exceptional service at all times by performing the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet Members and guests according to RPYCC standards.
- Advise Members and guests about attire, golf clubs, supplies, etc.
- Train and supervise seasonal Pro Shop Attendant.
- Assist Members in all daily Golf Shop tasks including but not limited to answering the phone, booking tee times, event sign ups, purchases, etc.
- Manage the special order process.
- Develop and foster Member relationships to create profiles to understand and track their needs and preferences.
- Oversee POS system, product pricing and management of all inventories during scheduled months.
- Responsible for buying, pricing, receiving, unpacking, tagging, and displaying merchandise.
- Adhere to an Open to Buy Purchasing Plan to maintain proper inventory levels.
- Assist the Head Golf Professional and Director of Golf with yearly retail budget.
- Plan and execute merchandise events; trunk shows, sales, demo days, etc.
- Work with Communications Department to properly advertise merchandise events.
- Assist with the purchase of clothing and uniforms for other departments.
- Attend merchandise shows and conferences to stay current with golf trends.
- Assist Golf Professional Staff with tournaments.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the Pro Shop.
- Arrive to work in proper uniform and maintain professional appearance in accordance to RPYCC grooming standards.
- Adhere to all RPYCC policies and procedures.
- Bring ideas to improve the operation or areas of concerns to the Director of Golf and Head Golf Professional.
- Any and all other tasks assigned by the Head Golf Professional, Director of Golf, Clubhouse Manager or General Manager.
Education / Experience
- Bachelor's degree in related field; or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of two years of experience in Merchandising, preferably in a Country Club or Resort setting.
- Knowledge of golf a plus.
- Jonas experience preferred.
- Active member of the AGM.
Qualifications
- Excellent customer service and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Strong organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet and anticipate frequent deadlines in a timely manner and manage situations from start to finish.
- Must be self-directed and demonstrate initiative.
- Have a clear understanding of the financial aspects of merchandising to include profit margins, cost of goods, etc.
- Must be able to negotiate contracts and pricing.
- Must be able to read, write and comprehend work orders, invoices, schedules, etc.
