PositionSummary:   

    

Canadian Solar e-STORAGE is now seeking a Global Director for EHS andFire Protection who will be responsible for championing Battery Energy Storage System Fire Protection and ensuring occupational safety and health for our BESS project execution teams globally. Your role will include evaluating safety practices, conducting site inspections, leading training programs, and implementing fire emergency response protocols. You will be a key contributor to our commitment to sustainability and safety.   

    

Responsibilities:   

    

  • Manage fire emergency response procedures, including the development and implementation of emergency response plans (ERP) and action plans, coordinating with local fire departments and emergency services as necessary.
  • Implement 7d/24h emergency phone support and response team.
  • Act as the lead responsible person during incident response globally, ensuring timely and thorough investigations, controlling external communication, and implementing corrective measures.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Acts and legislation, actively promoting and enforcing safe working practices. Lead the development and execution of global safety training programs for employees, emphasizing on fire and electrical best practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Engage in the continuous review and update of Battery Safety guidelines and regulations, incorporating feedback and lessons learned from field operations and industry developments.
  • Oversee incident and accident investigations, risk assessments, and the development of effective corrective measures, promoting a proactive approach to incident prevention.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to verify the proper implementation of policies and procedures at operating and construction sites. Lead regular in-house training sessions with managers and employees on health and safety issues and risks.
  • Stay updated on new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) legislation affecting the renewable energy industry.
  • Establish and test emergency preparedness and response procedures globally, ensuring the organization’s resilience in crises.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of safety metrics, incidents, and compliance status to senior management and relevant authorities.
  • Lead, mentor, and provide strategic support to Regional Health and Safety Managers across different geographical locations (US, EMEA, APAC, LATAM).
  • Develop and maintain a collaborative network among regional H&S teams for knowledge sharing and best practice exchange.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of global safety standards and practices across all regions.
  • Evaluate regional safety performance and provide resources and direction needed to meet safety objectives and reduce incidents.
  • Assess the effectiveness of regional safety initiatives and compliance with both local and international regulations.
  • Make necessary adjustments to regional safety strategies to align with global safety goals and enhance safety culture.
  • Available for spontaneous travel, including weekends and overnight stays, as required by business needs. Maintain flexibility in work hours, including evenings and weekends.

    

Required Qualifications and Skills:   

    

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial health and safety or Fire Protection
  • A minimum of 10 years of practical experience in Health and Safety, with a strong background in industrial safety, electrical engineering, and chemical engineering, and preferably with experience in power plant construction. Comprehensive knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation across all US States.
  • Working knowledge and certifications in NFPA 855 and NFPA 9540A.
  • Experience coordinating with fire departments and conducting HAZMAT training.
  • Competence in conducting Hazard & Risk Assessments and Fire Response Training.
  • Demonstrated ability in Emergency Response Planning (ERP), including the development of comprehensive emergency response plans that address potential BESS emergencies and ancillary equipment failures, alongside the provision of an Emergency Response Action Plan (ERAP) for quick incident management.
  • Strong knowledge of protecting the environment, pollution control regulations, and waste minimization
  • Computer literate, excellent skills as a trainer regarding EH&S, leadership skills, effective writing, and communication skills.
