The Denver International Airport (DEN) Intern program is an integral part of the culture at DEN and provides students the opportunity to work alongside DEN professionals, while being able to explore career opportunities within the aviation industry.
Program Goals:
- Create a career ladder opportunity for interns to gain first-hand work experience relative to DEN's business environment, mission, vision, and goals with the goal of convert-to-hire
- Expose interns to the variety of career opportunities within the aviation industry
- Empower interns to learn new job skills or improve on an existing skillset in a specific technical area(s)
- Establish a professional mentorship relationship for interns and their mentors

What You'll Do
This position is fully integrated with the Denver Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with various airport departments to update our Airport Layout Plan; managing Portal web apps; and working with non-GIS users to design new web applications. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to acquire and enhance your skills in GIS software, including Esri Portal, Experience Builder, Autodesk Civil3D, and Global Mapper.
As a GIS Intern you will:
- Develop and maintain Portal web apps and geoprocessing tools to support established workflows under the guidance of a mentor
- Enter data, validate accuracy, and maintain existing geodatabases while ensuring compliance with a centralized data model
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to implement strategic objectives
- Collaborate with Airside Planning to update the Airport Layout Plan
- Produce, publish, and maintain maps in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
- Provide technical support to staff as needed
About You
What You'll Bring
We are seeking a novice in GIS with a keen interest in understanding the intricacies of a large GIS Enterprise, and who is passionate and eager to explore technical boundaries while discovering innovative solutions when it comes to GIS in aviation. Our preferred candidate will have the following experience, skills, and traits:
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders
- Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written. The ability to translate technical GIS concepts to non-technical users
- Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS or other relevant tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address spatial challenges
- Genuine interest and enthusiasm for GIS, spatial analysis, and its applications in various domains
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor's, or higher degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Urban Planning or a related field, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion)
- Experience: None
- Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted

Location
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. In this position you can expect to work on site at the Denver International Airport three days per week. We do not offer housing or relocation assistance for this position.
Internship Duration and Hours
This is a 10-week college internship with an expected start date of June 3, 2024, and a completion date of August 9, 2024. This position is expected to work no more than 39 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits.
FBI Background Check
FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.
